How to choose the best Lingerie to suite your body

"I have no idea what to wear, what do you recommend?"

I get asked this question a lot when it comes to Boudoir; and to be honest I wish it was a super simple answer. However, each lady I see is built completely different. That's not a bad thing though, I mean that's what makes us all unique.

So, in order to help answer this question I have compiled a little information to help you out.

First things first, find your body type. There are many different types of shapes however, all those shapes fit into one of these categories.

You have the Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle, and Inverted-triangle.

To figure out which of these you are, you will need to do two things.

Measure your bust, waist (at its smallest part), and hips (at their largest part)
Look at a full size mirror and assess your silhouette (the outline of your body) from front and sideways view

If your bust measurements are the same or very close to your hips measurement and you have a well defined waist – you are an Hourglass type.

If your bust line, waist and hips are equal or very similar (there is no a defined waist) you are Rectangle body type. Also when you look at yourself from the side your bottom may look flat.

If your bust, waist and hips are equal or the waistline is slightly bigger than the hips and bust line. Shoulders are soft and rounded and the bottom (from a sideways view) is curved. You are a Apple or Oval.

If your bust line is narrower than your hips. Your bust is smaller than your hips when looking at yourself sideways and your bottom is curved. You are a Pear (or Triangle). Just look at these celebrities, they all have curvy bottoms and their busts are visibly smaller then their hips.

If your bust line is broader than your hips in measurements and when looking at your silhouette sideways you are most likely an Inverted-Triangle.

Now the fun part, we have covered body types and you have a pretty good idea as to which you are, so we can figure out what lingerie looks best on each body type.

Hourglass

If your lucky enough to have that Marilyn Monroe's bombshell hourglass figure, you can pretty much pull anything off. However there are a few pieces of lingerie that look best for this figure including garter belts, teddies, and corsets. Of course you could also go for a high leg panty or even a lace bra and matching thong.

Pear/Triangle

It's all about the booty right now {Just think how popular JLo and Kim K are right now}. So if your one of those gals rockin' the big booty, try a lacy negligee that is taut at the breasts but flows down around the hips. A bustier is also a great option to draw attention to your breasts. You can also try out a matching set with a ruffled bra and panties or a bandeau bra that levels out your shoulders and hips.

Rectangle

If your rockin' that athletic figure, you have a rectangular body. You need something that cinches at the waist, and corsets are the best option for that. They add curves and look sensuous. If you have a long torso, a garter belt or a teddy will look great on you. You can also accentuate your breasts by going for push-up bras and bustier lingerie.

Inverted-Triangle

Broad shoulders define this body type, and what you decide to showcase is a personal preference. Halter necks are your best option here. If you have a flatter bum, go for a teddy to divert attention away from it. A bralette with a matching lace panty or a thong is another sexy option. Matching cami sets are another option if you like a relatively tame look.

Apple/Oval

If you have a rounded waist and your torso and upper body are much wider than your hips, you have a round body. This means you need lingerie that makes your body look proportionate. A negligee that hides chunks of your waistline and defines your bust line is a good option. A teddy also sits well on this type of body. For newbies, a pair of chemises or satin lingerie gowns are an interesting choice – they are sexy and give you coverage.

Boudoir can be shot anywhere, hotel, B&B, your own home, in-studio, outdoor, you name it. However, the problem is, a lot of Photographer's don't own their own Studio. So all those Car Wash themed shoots you have been seeing on TicToc lately... yeah. Anyone in their brother...or mother...or boss, is watching. And if your like me, you don't want your business plastered all over the internet followed by phone calls asking why I was washing my car in a thong in public. LOL.

This is where I took the leap into offering my clients a safe, discreet, private location where I not only own my own studio, but the very house and land it is on.

Located on the outskirts of Fairfield, PA the Chrissy Smith Photography Boudoir Studio is settled on 10 acres of private land. With my studio containing several sets, I also wanted to offer something others couldn't. Which is when my outdoor sets were born. When my husband and I originally purchased this home, we looked knowing I would want to continue creating and making outdoor sets for my clients to enjoy all year long.

Now that I have talked your ear off, I will get into the goods with our first set.

Bedroom Set

Let's face it, it's just not Boudoir unless there is a awesome bed set-up to go with it. I wanted a vintage/rustic appeal to my bedroom set and fell in love with these colors when I shot a wedding at a local venue. Everything else kinda fell into place after. Let’s face it, we all struggle with comparison, it’s a part of life and certainly a part of being a woman. But your boudoir session is no place for it. Boudoir is about self-love, self-expression, empowerment, and most importantly, it’s about YOU. This is YOUR session, stop comparing yourself to others.

It’s fine to use other gorgeous women as inspiration, even motivation, but you are beautiful as you are and there’s no point in trying to be anyone else. There’s nothing that breaks my heart more than a woman coming in for her boudoir session saying “I can’t wear _____, I don’t have a body like that girl” or “no I don’t want to do that pose because I hate _____ about my body!” Girl, just be YOU. I cannot say it enough. I want to hear what you LOVE about your body. Let’s showcase that!

I hear this all the time during pre-session consultations, and not just boudoir. Not knowing your angles is not something you should be worried about during your boudoir session, that’s my job. I want you to feel comfortable, empowered, and beautiful! Everyone has imperfections, that’s life. But it’s essential to realize that everyone has their own flaws and finding beauty within your unique imperfections is what’s important.

I know it’s tough to learn not to talk down to yourself, but for your boudoir session I really want you to focus on being kind to yourself. Thinking kind thoughts and really sinking deep into loving your body will absolutely show through in your photos. Confidence truly is the sexiest quality and if you’re feeling strong and confident, I promise you will GLOW. Body positivity is not easy, we know this. What I love to say is — if you wouldn’t say it to your best friend about her body, do not say it to yourself about yours!

Try Something New

Boudoir is the best time to try something new. You are already stepping a little outside you "normal" per say. So why not try something a little different. This client did and she absolutely ROCKED it. This outfit seemed very daunting when hanging in my client closet, so when I mentioned giving it a try. She was a little intimidated, but placed her trust in me. After snapping a few shots with it, I happily showed her the back of my camera and giggled. She was shocked at the results... and how amazing the outfit looked on her.

So, the point of this is, don't be afraid to give something a try and step outside your "normal". You may just be very surprised with the outcome, just like Miss R.

What is Boudoir?

Boudoir...where did it come from?

Boudoir is french for a woman's private bedroom/dressing room. Long ago, in the early 1920s, boudoir photography was considered tasteless and disgraceful. While it was intended to capture the beauty of a woman's figure and emotions. Many saw this as a unrealistic or inappropriate explorations of her body. This was back when women were laughed at, mocked, shamed, and not treated equally (or fairly). And during this time, it was actually illegal.

Albert Arthur Allen, and American based photographer was wrapped in scandal because his style of nude photography wasn't quite acceptable (example of his work shown above). In fact, so much so that he was indicted for sending obscene materials through mail and spent years in litigation. All of which was eventually dropped. **Eye roll**

Fast forward to the mid-1930's and 40's. Pinup girls, *whistles*. Before Marilyn Monroe, there was Betty Grable (pictured above). Betty was the face of the iconic pin-up-girl-look that was created in the 30's and 40's, right around the beginning of WWII FACT: Our government actually used a pin-up of Betty as propaganda to persuade young men to enlist into the war! Do you remember those bomber plans with the pin-ups on the noses? Yup...

Women then started commissioning their own pin-up drawings and photographs to send to their husbands away at war as motivation for their safe return home. Betty's work did so much more than just becoming the government's pin-up girl. Betty was also the highest-paid actress and woman in her time.

When the 50's rolled around Marilyn Monroe became a pretty household name. Some would argue that Marilyn kicked off the sexual liberation of women. While she is one of many women, Marilyn definitely normalized female sexuality and is still a household name 50+ years later. But, it wasn't just the photos that made her so popular and intriguing. Marilyn was outspoken, charismatic, humorous, and embraced herself with ease, resulting in the entire world falling in love with her.

After that, boudoir picked up and more and more women started participating in the trend. These women paved the way for modern-day boudoir. Today, while some people are still uncomfortable with the idea of having a boudoir session. Boudoir is widely accepted in today's standards. We see women all over social media, magazines, and in movies embracing their bodies and flaunting their stuff! Women have a variety of reasons why they chose to do a boudoir session. It may be a gift for a significant other or celebrating a milestone in life. However, a surprising number of women take these photos just for themselves. One thing that happens with all women is that boudoir sessions allows them to see themselves differently. There is an unexpected journey that clients go through from planning stages, showing up the day of their session with great bravery and finally putting their own self-criticisms aside to truly appreciate the beauty that has always been there.

Boudoir... Who's it really for?

When many people think of doing a boudoir shoot, they automatically think of a spouse or significant other. But in truth, is that who the shoot is really for?

I really wanted to dive into this a little more and explain. You see, as much as boudoir is an amazing gift to give to your partner, I feel it is even more of a gift for yourself.

Just like strutting your stuff with your new coach purse, rocking that new mani & pedi, or getting your hair done and feeling like a million bucks... Boudoir is about making you feel good about yourself.

There is a reason I call my boudoir more then a "session", but an experience. A session is in and out, you come, get photos, and that's it. Nothing that really changes how you see yourself or even really makes you feel good about yourself. Heck I couldn't tell you how many family portraits sessions I shot in the past where the women would forever tear themselves apart in photos. Not liking their hair, their smile, their bodies. All because they didn't reach the standards they thought were placed on them. All because they couldn't see the beauty that they had right then. This is why I offer an experience.

5 Tips of How to Relax during your Boudie Session

Are you nervous about your boudoir session? No worries, everyone gets the Boudie jitters, and I totally get it. Each one of my clients that step through my front door are nervous, but the best part is, when you step back out that door. Your nerves will be the last thing on your mind. You will walk out, a goddess with your head held high with a all new sense of self esteem you never knew you possessed.

Below are a few tips that I have compiled to help you relax on the day of your shoot. Some of these I even do in studio to help.

Play Music – This will help you to calm down and feel comfortable. I always play my Boudoir Playlist during shoots. Not only to help you relax but also to add to the fun... cause we all giggle at "I'm too sexy" or "Sexy and I know it"...lol

Deep Breathing – Practice deep breathing. This is a proven relaxation method. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your nose. Repeat until you feel better.

Take a Break – If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we can take a break from shooting and talk and relax before resuming the session.

Drink – Not to get drunk, but a glass of wine before your shoot might help take that edge off. While I don't offer wine or alcohol in studio I do offer bottled water.

Laugh It Off – If you’re feeling silly in front of the camera, laugh at yourself. Laughter is a great relaxation technique which is why I strive to make your experience as fun as it is uplifting. I want my clients to have fun, laugh, and go back to their friends and family telling them how much fun they had.

{Boudoir} How to choose the best Lingerie for your body

"I have no idea what to wear, what do you recommend?"

So, in order to help answer this question I have compiled a little information to help you out.

First things first, find your body type. There are many different types of shapes however, all those shapes fit into one of these categories.

You have the Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle, and Inverted-triangle.

To figure out which of these you are, you will need to do two things.

Measure your bust, waist (at its smallest part), and hips (at their largest part)
Look at a full size mirror and assess your silhouette (the outline of your body) from front and sideways view

If your bust measurements are the same or very close to your hips measurement and you have a well defined waist – you are an Hourglass type.

If your bust line, waist and hips are equal or very similar (there is no a defined waist) you are Rectangle body type. Also when you look at yourself from the side your bottom may look flat.

If your bust line is broader than your hips in measurements and when looking at your silhouette sideways you are most likely an Inverted-Triangle.

Now the fun part, we have covered body types and you have a pretty good idea as to which you are, so we can figure out what lingerie looks best on each body type.

How to prep for your Boudoir Session.

Here are some tips for finding the looks that will enhance your natural beauty, personality and sensuality during your shoot.

Visualize the clothing, sexy heels, accessories, and wonderful props you will want to wear for your shoot. Flip through your favorite fashion magazines for more examples on ways the pair colors, fabrics, and styles for easy runway glamour.
Shop your closet for your go to items when you want to feel sexy (and look) your very best. Let your imagination free.
Grab a style savvy go to friend and hit the stores to find a super sexy flattering outfit that not only sexy, but comfortable and relaxed.
Pick out lingerie that highlights your beautiful curves, but please remember sometimes a too tight tee shirt, soft sweater, or oversized button down shirt can be even sexier. Let your personality shine through.
Don't forget to bring something meaningful to you or your significant other; this serves as a great way to personalize your shoot. I have even had a client pose with her husbands police hat to make it more personal for him.

Five days before your shoot...

If you wax, do so a few days prior to your shoot to avoid redness and bumps.
Make sure eyebrows and nicely shaped and groomed.
If your planning to visit the salon for a haircut or color, give yourself a few days to make sure your happy with it.
Be sure to get a salon manicure and pedicure for a flawless finish.
Stay out of the sun- while a basic tan will be nice in photos, red blotchy skin will not.
PLEASE - DO NOT SPRAY TAN.
Drink plenty of water for luminous skin.
Lower your salt intake and avoid alcohol, if your worried about retaining water.
Try on your outfits and lingerie to make sure they fit properly; remove all tags and labels. Steam or iron your ensembles and hang them properly so they keep their shape.

The day before your shoot...

Bathe, shave, and moisturize.
Where those loose fitting clothes to your session to avoid red-marks on your skin (no jeans, tight socks, or tight clothing for instance).
Eat some thing light but filling.
Arrive with a clean, moisturized face and CLEAN HAIR! (This is important.)
Take a deep breath and RELAX. It is completely normal to be a wee bit nervous before your shoot, but please don't worry. You will be in good hands. I will show you exactly how to pose and help you to get the best shots possible. :)
MOST IMPORTANT!! Have fun!

Now that your session is over, it’s time to decide where you are going to put your photos and what will look best in your home.

Canvas – We offer beautiful canvases stretched over varying thicknesses of wood to make it stand out more or less depending on your preference. These photos are free-floating and do not require a frame.
Framed on Wall – Dress your photos up with stylish frames to match your home décor. We offer a variety of print sizes for you to choose from. Contact us for more details.

*When hanging photos on your wall (framed or canvas) you can choose to hang a single photo, or a group of photos in a collage to change it up.

Framed on Shelves, Desks, Tables – If you are renting or don’t want to put holes in your walls from prints or canvases, you can also frame your prints and place them on shelves, desks, or tables around your home. (You can also do this in addition to the wall hangings if you’d like.)
Photo Boxes – Customized photo boxes are totally in! These are very popular amongst our clients. This is a great way to display your photos, and you can keep more prints inside or use them as a keepsake box to house your precious memories.
Wall Calendars – Enjoy your photos all year long with these beautiful wall calendars!
Albums/Coffee Table Books – If you just can’t pick out a few photos to display in your home and you need more space, you can always get an album printed up and place it on your coffee table or bookshelf. Pull it out and look through it to remember how fun your session was, and how much your family loves each other.

If you have every watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, you will remember one of the best and honest lines in the movie,

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Life does move fast. First we are in school then maybe off to college or we get married and before you know it, even your kids are getting ready for graduation. Then we look back and ask ourselves, where in the world did the time go?

During that time, we go through so many different changes. Some are physical, some spiritual, some attitude and some just are seeing the wisdom that your parents may have imparted to us. Regardless of the change, we need to celebrate making it another day and be comfortable with ourselves for who we have become.

Why should you do this? Let’s face it, society has done some pretty nasty things to us. People, especially women, are made to feel that they need to be skinny size zero with a muscular physique and a flawless complexion with hair that flows like the wind. The cruel side effect of this is that people begin to compare and demean themselves because they feel a constant need to compare themselves to those other. They lose the confidence that had inspired them to become who they are. Society has been chipping away at women for a long time and it is only getting worse and I’m here to say…

THAT’S NOT RIGHT!!!

Fortunately, I am here to say that I can help fix that situation!!!

EVERY woman, every person is a perfectly unique creation that deserves to be admired for who they are and what they have accomplished in their lives. Common Fears & Concerns About A Boudoir Shoot

Many women have concerns and fears when trying to decide whether or not to book a boudoir shoot.

These fears are very common and unfortunately, cause many women to miss out on this amazing experience.
One of the things boudoir photographers hear most from boudoir clients after all is said and done is, “Every woman should experience this at least once in their lifetime!” They also get many repeat clients because after their first experience, they have put those fears and concerns to rest.

Let’s look at some of the most common concerns that I hear from girls who feel a little skeptical and let’s put those fears to rest!

"I am not comfortable with my flaws."

Let’s face it, we all have flaws! Not a single one of us is perfect. There is no such thing as too heavy, too thin, too pale, too dark, too many stretch marks, etc. Our flaws are what makes us unique. And you are ALL equally beautiful! I have flaws myself, and I can assure that I am that last one to judge any female for anything they see as a flaw. I see you as a strong badass woman who is gorgeous in her own way. I see you as a client therefore, I will go above and beyond to listen to you and help guide you the whole process while focusing on your best assets.

“I won’t know how to pose properly.”

Listen up ladies! As a professional boudoir photographer, I do my research. You do not need to know how to pose, it’s my job to pose you! I will direct you through the whole process all the way down to the way you tilt your head and where to place your hand. I will actually demonstrate the poses with you and physically move your hands, arms, legs, etc. if needed. It is a team effort and we are in this together. All you need to do is show up and let me handle the rest. You may come into the shoot feeling a little stiff and awkward but, gradually you will become more and more comfortable with each pose. You do not need to be a professional model to have a boudoir experience

“I’m afraid I won’t like the photos of myself.”

This concern usually stems from the above two concerns. Being afraid that your flaws and inability to know how to properly pose will ruin your images. No one wants to look awkward, uncomfortable, or have their flaws put on display and captured on camera. I take great pride in my services and work. I want you to look beautiful and FEEL beautiful when you see your photos! I want you to be satisfied and enjoy your experience. And that’s why I will work tentatively with you to make sure we get the perfect poses and expressions that highlight everything beautiful about you!

A boudoir session is such a wonderful experience! They allow you to see yourself in a way that maybe you refuse to yourself, beautiful and sensual and just plain awesome! 3 Ways to Display Your Boudoir Photos

Amazing images are never meant to stay on a screen. Your images have breath and life in them. They represents the beautiful, fierce soul, which is you. Who deserves to be celebrated! Here are 3 ways to display your boudoir photos after experiencing a boudoir session.

1 | Albums

Your photos come alive in a whole new way in print, especially in an album. Albums offer you beautiful moments to sit and sift through the pages. Smell the leather and feel the silk finish of the pages.

There’s nothing like seeing your photos come alive on the pages of an album. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.

2 | Prints

Prints are a perfect addition to a custom album. Prints can be small gems found throughout the day, as a bookmark or hidden in a suitcase for your love to find. Or they can be enlarged and hung in your bedroom or master bath, a perfect view from the tub.

My favorite way to display prints is through a folio box. With a pearl finish and white border, they’re unlike anything else I’ve experienced. Wrapped with a silk linen ribbon, it’s a perfect way to keepsake prints.

3 | Gifts

A thoughtful gift, whether for yourself or your significant other, is the perfect way to continue preserving your boudoir photos. After your session, take the time to look at your photos often and enjoy them. Leave a bit of lingerie on the bed with a photo of you or send a surprise text to your better half and let them know you’re thinking about them. The little things go a long way.

A little secret from me to you:

As a photographer, I spend hours making sure each and every one of your photos is perfect. The bummer is, not every company that offers tangible goods have top-notch professional printers. So the photos that have been carefully crafted may not look so hot coming out of a Walgreen’s printer. This is why I only offer the best of the best with my products. Boudoir Is For Single Ladies Too!

So my singing isn't the best, but let's face it. There is a HUGE misconception in the Boudoir world that you need to be married or with someone in order to enjoy a boudoir experience. And in all honesty, this is so far from the truth. Boudoir is more than a gift of amazing images for someone... heck, its more then a shoot. It's an experience, and EVERY woman deserves to this experience at lease once in their lifetime.

I cannot preach how important self care is. Women of all ages can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Which makes it super easy to "let yourself go" if you don't take the time to take care of yourself and treat yourself from time to time. Enjoy a glass of wine with a book in a bubble bath with locked doors so no one can barge in and interrupt, or plan a nice relaxing hike enjoying nature on a beautiful day without demands are both examples of self care.

The experience of boudoir is a excellent way to treat yourself. Many of us, myself included, need to find ways to remind ourselves that we are beautiful. Stress and life in general can easily cause us to loose our self esteem and confidence. Boudoir can give us an outlet to feel beautiful and regain that confidence we tend to lose over the years.

The shoot isn't just about taking beautiful images of you. But the experience to get pampered and get your hair and makeup professionally done. The goal is to get you as relaxed as possible, and to highlight ALL of your best features to make you glow with confidence and feel gorgeous in front of the camera. So you leave the shoot feeling courageous and empowered. Leaving, knowing you still have "it". All of it!

Social media, TV, Movies, Ect... all tend to leave us never feeling like enough. We are either too thin or too heavy, too pale or too dark, too short or too tall... we are all unique in our own way and we are all built differently! We need to learn to embrace out bodies the way they are, and learn to love them, flaws and all. A boudoir experience is perfect for doing just that.

What To Bring To Your Boudoir Experience and How To Prepare

A boudoir experience is all about getting pampered, feeling empowered, and seeing yourself in a whole new light! It’s exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time. But I am here to put those nerves at ease. I have you covered, and I will be there from the time you first contact me, to when you pickup those amazing products!

To help ease some of the nerves of getting ready for that amazing experience I have put together a quick checklist for your boudoir bag and an overview of how to prepare for your session.

Boudoir Bag Checklist

1. 2-3 Outfits + a Few Extras

I’ve been there, outfits can be hard to narrow down! So bring your favs and allow me to narrow them down based on what will photograph best.

2. Accessories

This is an area where less is truly more. Simple jewelry, knee-high socks, oversized sweaters, button-down shirt, veil, robe, + any additional accessories you may like will all make for great accessories! Don't have any accessories, I have a client closet including many accessories and body jewelry items.

3. Lotion

Moisturizing is always a great idea! Bring your favorite lotion to feel amazing in your skin.

4. Light Snacks

If you’re anything like me, getting hangry is a real thing. So while you’re being pampered with hair and makeup, bring a granola bar or some fruit to snack on. I provide bottled water to all my clients.

Preparing for a Boudoir Session

4-6 Weeks Prior

1. Begin dreaming about your ideal boudoir outfits.
Shop your closet for your favorite pieces you already own and look at magazines and brands you love for inspiration.

2. Go shopping!
Ask a girlfriend to join you and help you find pieces you not only look good in, but feel good in! Think outside the box and don’t be afraid to try something that’s a little out of your comfort zone. You never know, you could love a new piece! I highly recommend checking out Underneath It All in Camp Hill, PA. They offer Boudoir fittings where you can try on lingerie and they will help you find the best fit for your body.

3. Choose 3-5 Outfits
Begin to narrow down your outfit choices to 3-5 favorite outfits. Don't fret if you only have 1 or 2 outfits, we do have a fully stocked client closet of items available to all our amazing clients!

4. Think Beyond the Shoot
Think about how you want to preserve your photos. An album and prints are my favorite way to show off my boudoir photos!

3-5 Days Prior

1. Wax/shave and moisturize.

2. Avoid spray tans or tanning lotions. No matter how natural tanning sprays and lotions may seem, they create an orange glow that cannot be retouched after your session.

3. Drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin.

4. Remove all price and sizing tags from lingerie. Even the permanent ones.

5. Choose your final outfits you plan to bring with you.

1-2 Days Prior

1. Get a fresh manicure! Avoid bright colors, neutrals are best.

2. Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin!

3. Moisturize your skin.

4. Pack your boudoir bag the night before to ensure the essentials aren’t forgotten.

5. Double check your list, relax, and get excited to be pampered!

Boudoir Session Day

1. Arrive with a clean, moisturized face and clean dry hair. My amazing MUA will pamper you with hair and makeup.

2. Moisturize your entire body!

3. Wear loose fitting clothing and undergarments to avoid impressions on the skin. (Set them tata's free ladies!)

4. Eat a light meal that will ensure you’re satisfied but not bloated.

5. Allow plenty of time to arrive a few minutes early. You’ll feel at ease and ready to slay your boudoir session!

Fairies and Nymphs oh my...

It's hard to believe I am thinking of spring and summer and we have just really started Winter and Snow. But of course that's how it goes with trying to stay one step ahead in the world of Boudoir.

We have done the Angel theme, which is amazing. However I have been throwing around the idea of fairies and nymphs since last year. This time around I am putting it on my inspiration board of shoots I want to complete in 2022!

I took to Pinterest and needless to say I am hooked. Just take a peek at some of the ideas for outfits I found!!! Can we just take a moment to be in AWE!? Not to mention how totally cute would these look for a maternity boudoir???

Boudoir is all about embracing your natural beauty, and what a better way to do that then embracing it in nature itself? I have been trying to think of how I want to do the set for these shoots and what kind of feel I wanted to create and then I came across this image.

This really had me thinking, we have a TON of wild grapevine in the woods. How hard could it be to make this in real life and life sized??? Not to mention, we have boulders galore on the property... so....do I think this is my next project? Do I think it will be amazing? Do I think my husband is going to hate me.... Hell yes I do! LOL

Oh, and combine that set and wardrobe with an amazing natural headdress and cellophane wings and amazing things are bound to happen!

I am convinced that that pinterest will be the death of me, but I look forward to all the inspiration it gives and opportunities for amazing shoots for my clients!

When many people think of Boudoir, they think in studio and nothing more, and with good reason to be honest. A lot of times being in studio is the only place you can avoid prying eyes for such a intimate shoot. I mean, who wants to go to a public park and prance around in next to nothing for the world to see? Or have some unsuspecting hiker to come along and get to take in more "natural beauty" then he expected?

This is one thing that sets Chrissy Smith Boudoir Studio apart from other boudoir photographers. Since we are nothing but a boudoir studio I am able to dedicate my time and space for nothing but boudoir sets. With being located on just under 10 acres of land, where we are able to go into our property without worry of unsuspecting visitors... well other than the occasional deer or squirrel. LOL

You are able to feel comfortable and confident hidden by the gorgeous beauty of nature. And really let out your inner goddess.

Last year not only did we design our claw-foot tub set outdoors, but we also added a rustic gate as well as scouted out locations for our floral swing sets for spring/summer/fall. These sets continue to blow me away with the elegance of nature to help add to my clients natural beauty.

This year I have a few more ideas in mind to add to our outdoor sets to have even more fun in creating amazingly gorgeous images for our clients. But you'll have to stay tuned for more information on those *wink wink*

Let's face it. 2021 was a sh*t show (kinda like 2020). So many people, including myself ran into so many ups and downs it left me tired, worn out, and stressed. I definitely needed some me time. To me, my "me time" is usually spent getting my hair done. Just those few hours of sitting in a salon being pampered without "mom, mom, mom", "I'm hungry", "what's for dinner", "where's my toy"...

I mean let's face it, we all need a break from time to time. But, we also tend to put ourselves last when it comes to doing stuff for "us". Trust me I am the queen of doing this. I am the person who goes shopping with the intention of "today is the day I buy for me" and then talk myself out of everything I picked up for me, and replace it with stuff for my kids or hubs. I can never justify investing in myself, so I know the struggle first hand. However, with being in this business. I also see where we are allowed to invest in our selves. With everything we do for others, what's wrong with doing something that makes you feel good, and renews that self confidence that we tucked under the rug when we had kids? We deserve to pamper ourselves, and what a better way then to spend a couple hours out of the house, getting your hair and makeup done by a professional, and then getting some amazing photos to remind you of how beautiful and special you truly are?

5 Tips to Boudoir Posing

5 Things To Know about Boudoir Posing

It’s no secret that posing is one of the ingredients in a beautiful portrait. (I didn’t forget about you my other favorites light & lens, pinky promise!) But it can be tricky to know exactly how to pose your body. In this post, I’ll give you some tips on how to 5 things you can adjust and play with for beautifully posed portraits. I’ll also remind you about a hundred times to breathe. Just breathe.

There are so many details to consider when it comes to posing for a photo. Whether you’re a model or just someone who found this page while searching about doing a boudoir selfie . . . there’s more to it than just arching your back and popping an elbow and pouting. In this post, I’ll cover the basics of how to pose from head to toe – which is a very quick version of the body language guidance I give at your actual boudoir session. I’ll tell you what to do with your hand, your jaw, your shoulders, your hips and your feet and where to look so you look your sensual best in your boudoir photos.

Jaw

Relax your jaw and breathe! Breathe, damn it breathe! You’ll see the difference. I promise.

Shoulders

Shoulders (forward rotation/they don’t have to be doing the same thing and we get more angles!!)

Hips

Hips (roll them forward seated, laying down, standing, kneeling) = more movement potential/more weight shifting/more flexibility. Or in easy terms, pop that bootay! If you ran a line from your shoulder blade to your booty, we want to create a triangle in the small of your back.

Eye Line

Eye line options (look away/look down/close eyes/right at camera)

Feet

Barbie Feet (weightless heels and pushing out through the ball of the foot / not too much tension in the toes)

Side Crunch

Like at the gym? Kind of…. You are bringing your rib cage down to the hip which stretches out the opposite side of your body

Bringing it all together!

Close the eyes.

Make sure you are breathing….

All of these things together from a different angle and eyes to camera.

When you’re posing for a photo, it’s important to understand how to control your body. Posing can make or break an image, and if you don’t know the basics, you could wind up looking awkward or uncomfortable. By practicing all these, you’ll be able to take better photos of yourself and rock your next photo session!

DIY at-home Boudoir selfie shoot

I will fully admit this is the kind of post that is useless without pictures. But luckily, I have practiced this for years. And while I will admit, it does have it's hurdles compared to experiencing an actual shoot with someone else behind the camera. They are super fun to take. So, if you’re interested in taking DIY pictures, here are some tips on how to take a boudoir selfie. These are all actually me!

If you have ever tried and failed, at DIY boudoir photography, then this guide on how to take a boudoir selfie is for you. Sharing a few of our favorite mindset shifts, poses and lighting suggestions so that you can make some of your own gorgeous boudoir selfies.?

Of course, I wouldn't steer you away from doing a professional boudoir experience, but if you aren't comfortable yet having someone else take your boudoir photos, here's how to take things into your own hands and make a gorgeous boudoir selfie.

Tips on How to Take a Boudoir Selfie

GET IN THE MOOD

It all starts by getting in the right mood. When you are feeling good – your images will capture that. Ever wondered how to do boudoir photography yourself?? Here's where to begin!

CONFIDENCE

Stand tall. Take four deep breaths. You got this. One of our mantras here is that the best thing you can wear is confidence. Play some music to get you in the mood and movin'. I like playing songs that make me feel like a badass (lol) for instance Rhianna S&M or Pussy Cat Dolls - Buttons.

COMPASSION

Have compassion for yourself. Taking a boudoir selfie (and potentially sharing it!) takes courage. Remember that you are a whole, beautiful person. Love yourself for trying this.

PLAY

This should be fun. It's ok to enjoy it! Boudoir selfies are not a time to be serious – it’s a time to have fun. It’s time to play. And remind yourself that laughter is totally sexy.

LET GO

Don’t fixate on what doesn’t work or look good. Edit as you go. Delete the terrible ones. No one needs to see them. Focus on the good ones and keep the gems. Professional photographers work on lighting, angles, wardrobe to get it right and even though we are professionals, it doesn’t always happen the way we want it for the first time. If the angle or lighting isn't working – let that shot go for now and move on to the next one.

SET THE SCENE

Learning how to take a boudoir selfie isn't only about your inner attitude, it's about the place where you are shooting. Who hasn't held up their phone at arm’s length and taken a few from bed? And the ever classic bathroom mirror? Boudoir selfies can be taken anywhere, you can get out of the bathroom and your bed!

FIND THE GOOD LIGHT

Photography is literally nothing without light. And everything looks better with good light. How do you find that sweet light? Window light is usually a good place to start. You can stand facing the light for even and flat lighting. You can stand with the window light to your side which will show more definition and shadows. You can stand with the window light to your back and try a silhouette. They all have their benefits. Try shooting in each one to see which you like best.

TELL THE STORY

Where are you? What are you doing? What else is there? You can create a little narrative in your boudoir selfie to make it more interesting. Or at least check the background for things that are not flattering (mine was always a cluttered side table, lol).

TECHNICAL STUFF

You can use your actual camera, of course, but a phone is perfect for doing boudoir photography yourself – The front-facing cameras on most of our phones are set to wide-angle – which is not the best for taking portraits when you can only hold the camera at arm’s length from your face. But it is awesome for checking out lighting and finding the right place to position yourself and the camera. Self-timers are a selfie portraits best friend!

Give yourself some room to play. Don't let your arm length limit the variety of images you can get! Flip your phone to the front-facing camera, prop it up on a chair/ladder/windowsill and put on the 3 or 10-second timer.

Or another option is to set your camera to video. Take a video as you move through your poses, then go back and watch your video, screen shooting the moment you nail the pose!

DIY BOUDOIR POSES

The best boudoir photos don't look like you are trying too hard. They look natural and real – which is what makes them sensual and amazing! That is why I suggest starting with the mindsets above. Feeling grounded and alive and fully in your body is the place to start. Find the light and the scene and then you add motion and bring the energy.??

When you're in the studio, you'll go over all of this step by step. You can start out with these tips and practice at home with your own boudoir selfie before you have a session with me.

Exaggerate Your Curves Start by moving around and exaggerate the curves of your body.
Create asymmetry in your body You can this by shifting your weight back and forth. Activate your hands by running your fingertips along your body – one hand runs up along your body while the one runs down and then reverse. Touch your skin gently.
Position Your Chin Use the camera to see the difference between keeping your chin up or bring it down and looking out from under your brow – which one looks better??
Rotate your shoulders Move your shoulders forward to show more of your clavicle. Then bring that shoulder forward and your chin around to almost touch it creates a beautiful space by your neck.
Play with your hair Use your fingers (they are like little arrows pointing to what you want people to look at!) to bring attention to your face, your neckline, your collarbones, your cleavage – any place on your body that you want someone to notice. Keep your fingertips soft and moving – you can trace circles on your skin.
Don't forget to breathe Breathe brings life into the images.
Laugh Anytime you feel like laughing – laugh!
oh and don't forget your face!

We keep tension in our faces. Often when we see pictures of ourselves that we hate – it goes back to us not wanting the picture taken and holding tension about that right here in our faces. So, your mindset matters. Relax your mouth. Relax your jaw. Relax your brows. Focus your eyes. If your face looks tense, go back to some deep breathing and then release any leftover tension by laughing! And take that boudoir selfie!

My 6 Favorite Boudoir Experience Poses

Boudoir is so much more than just taking pictures of a person in their lingerie. But creating an holding space for you to make yourself vulnerable, to allow yourself to be unscripted and raw – creating an unforgettable experience where I make portraits with real emotional connection.

As a boudoir photographer, I have seen the transformation that happens when our clients are affirmed through their boudoir experience. And I have to tell you, it's an amazing thing to see. But just like any Boudoir shoot, posing is a HUGE part of that shoot and can be the difference between being an amazing one or a "meh" one. And let's face it, if you aren't used to being in front of a camera, it can also be one of the most challenging parts of doing a boudoir shoot. This is why I guide all my clients through every pose every step of the way.

No matter what the styling or aesthetic is, boudoir comes down to body language. If a client is stiff or uncomfortable, that will translate into the images. I want all our boudoir portraits to be truly intimate expressions of who you are. So your boudoir portraits should be as alive, as honest, as tangible and as sensual as you are. A lot of the poses that I do at a boudoir experience are inspired by being in a bedroom – poses that are about being in a space where you feel free and at ease.

The more confident you feel, the more at ease you will feel. And that confidence and ease translates into natural beautiful boudoir photographs that are honest and authentic. Mindset matters. As I was thinking through what poses I love and what boudoir poses work with every kind of body. I wanted to narrow them down to six of my best boudoir poses. These are poses that I love starting with – and clients love seeing in their albums and wall art. Practice these poses yourself to see how it affects your body. What poses highlight the parts of your body that you love???

So, what do they all have in common??

Look good with all bodies
Reference work outside the genre
Can work with any wardrobe and styling?

These flattering boudoir poses we can do with anybody and at any shoot – the wardrobe and the lighting and the textures and colors in the frame change the look and feel of the image.? All of these poses are easy to learn and add movement to – change the direction of your gaze (directly at the camera, at the light source, at your own body, or close your eyes) and move your fingertips along your body. This does two things-? draws attention back to your body and you can check in to how your body feels.

So enough with the yapping and lets get to the poses shall we?

#1 The Cougar

Yes, you heard right. I named this pose after those Cougars out there because that is exactly how you amazing ladies look with this pose. Personally I love this pose because it flatters all ladies and gives an amazing view of that rocking bootay! It's really no different than crawling and can be pulled off in many sets, from the bed to the wicker chair, this is sure to be a pose that Significant other will always remember.

#2 The Reach

This is another of my favorite poses because it is so versatile and can work with all ladies no matter how much amazing curve you possess. Once again you can rock this pose anywhere from the bed to a chair, the sky is the limit.

#3 Daydreamer

This pose has to be one of my all time favorites! The best part, it is so stinkin' simple to pull off. Just lay with your booty facing your bed and prop those long beautiful legs up and wa-la. Instant model! Not to mention this pose gives not only an amazing view to those legs, but your chest as well.

#4 Work it

A lot of ladies ask why I call this the "work it". Well, I do have to admit, getting into this pose is usually a little daunting and there is typically a lot of laughing involved with getting into this pose. But, I can honestly say this is one of those poses that ALL my clients have loved when they see the final image.

#5 The Lounge

Let's face it ladies, we have all been guilty of doing this one even without noticing we have done it. The best part is, this natural, smokin' pose works for all of us! And when shot at the right angle, really enhances that natural sensual beauty we all possess.

#6 The Nymph

This is a go-to for my outdoor claw-foot tub set. There is nothing more sexy than a beautiful woman within the beauty of nature, and this pose always looks amazing and innocent!

These are just a few of my ago-to poses that I use for my amazing clients. (Heck if I decided to show them all, we would be here all day. ) Slight variations may occur, of course as no two shoots are ever the same, but there are some of my favorite boudoir poses. No matter the wardrobe, these poses are timeless, elegant, sexy, and simply beautiful.

Inspiration...

Growing up, I was a very artistic person drawing, painting, and creating. However, for me, my creativity was always based around fantasy. I guess this was my way of escaping the stereo-types placed on you as a teen. Where others in my class drew what the art teacher asked, I was always living in my fantasy world or fairies and unicorns lol. Once we moved from jars and boring items to drawing figures and the human body, I fell in love with seeing the beauty in the human body. Now, I will fully admit you don't go into "detail" in high school when drawing the human anatomy but for my artistic mind and family background of artists, it wasn't long until I was getting how to draw people and portraits books for Christmas or a birthday lol.

Mythology was another thing I loved and somewhere along the way I started to combine the two. In high school and friend of mine noticed this and introduced me to Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell. Two AMAZING artists that were and still are known for taking portraits of people to the next level by combining them in a fantasy world of their own. I fell in LOVE with these artists and their paintings and turned my drawing into this very style. Of course in high school this was not "proper" but I didn't care. I loved it. And only once I got to college did my art instructor help grow this passion and creative love. She taught me posing of models to create even better portraits and gave me even more insight to growing my creative abilities.

Now, two things I learned from college that still stick with me today. One.... sorry fellas, but doing portraits of yall... yeah. The female body is much more beautiful to create portraits of then yours. Not saying the male anatomy is bad, but yeah... it's pretty boring from an art perspective lol. And 2... it's amazing the things you apply in drawing and painting can be applied to photography.

Now to get back to the point of this blog post. As I was trying to think of what I wanted to bring to my clients in 2022 I started to think of my past. Which happened to remind me of these two amazing artists and their work. After revisiting their work with some of their books I had in the attic it made me wonder about creating these in photography form. Having clients pose like in these pieces of work and combining elements of fantasy to them. Maybe I'm biting off more then I can chew with this thought, but I can't get it out of my mind.

At the beginning of each year I like to sit down and create a board of ideas that I would like to complete before the end of the year. This year I have compiled a list of some super fun ideas that I would love to bring to life at the Chrissy Smith Boudoir Studio.

Let me say that none of these images below are mine, but were captured by other photographers. These images are not exact replicas of ideas of have items in each image that correspond with my ideas of what I want to create.

You don't have to be a Victoria's Seceret Model to experience boudoir!

That's right. I said it. You don't have to be that perfect size 0 or even have to be built like a VS model to experience boudoir. Think of it. The standards for beauty changes every day, and what once was tabu, is now more common and excepted. The perfect body is a myth and women around the world are coming to love the bodies they are in. WHICH IS AMAZING!!! So, what is holding you back from embracing you beautiful self? Many women stand in the mirror and point out flaws. I challenge you, yes, YOU. To stand in that mirror, or if you don't have a mirror, take a look at a recent photo of yourself. And point out all the amazing things about your self. Pick at least 5 things, say them out loud. And really listen to yourself! There is nothing holding you back! And if you still don't believe in yourself. I'd love to show you just how beautiful everyone see's you with one of my boudoir experiences!

Remember, you don't have to be a VS model, but you can definitely slay like one!

Why you should invest in yourself!

Everywhere you look boudoir photographers are telling women the same thing. Invest in your self! And it's true. With all the daily stress of cleaning, grocery shopping, bills, work, kids... the list goes on. When was the last time you invested in yourself and did something solely for you?

If you anything like me, you can justify spending the money on your kids or family but when it comes to you... you can come up with a thousand reasons you don't need to do it. But there comes a time we really need to sit back and see what placing ourselves on the back burner has done.

Think about it. As most women grow older what do we do? We put ourselves down. We say "oh I wish I looked better", or "I wish I could loose this weight". It's always something negative.

So when I decided to do boudoir, it was to remind women of how beautiful they are, not matter the age or stage of life they are in. That they are awesome in their own bodies and that they should own who they are. Not who they were or want to be. Who they ARE, right now!

When investing in a boudoir experience with Chrissy Smith Photography you are not signing up for a regular photo session. You are investing in yourself. From the time you pick up your phone for our phone consult to the time you walk out the door with your amazing products, I want the full experience to be one you LOVE and want to tell all your friends about. I want it to be the experience that re fuels your confidence in who you are and how amazing you look!

When designing my experience I wanted it to be a all in one type thing. I didn't want it to add stress to any part of the shoot. So that meant, making it a one shop pit stop. What do I mean? Well, versus having to travel to get your hair done, then to get your makeup done, then to the location of the shoot. I wanted to offer all of that in one place. You don't have to run everywhere. You come to the studio where our professional hair and makeup artist will be waiting to pamper you with the hair and makeup style you want. All while having some girl time during your pampering we talk about the look you are going for and outfit choices. There are a lot of laughs and girl chat during this time, but it allows my clients to relax and enjoy the full experience. Once your pampering is done we move on to the shoot. Every one of my clients to date say how much fun they have during their shoots. I don't just throw you in front of the camera and boss you around. We laugh, we act silly, we have FUN! And before you know it the shoot is complete and your acting like America's Next Top Model! And THAT is what I love. To be able to see the transformation of a woman come into studio shy and nervous and leave with her head held high and a new sense of confidence is AMAZING! Even though the shoot ends, the experience continues as a week later my client will come back for an amazing reveal of her stunning images a week later where client's are then able to choose their favorites and pick products/collections. Even at the reveal and order appointment, I have designed it around keeping stress down. So my clients have the availability to in-house payment plans to take the stress of cost away and make it affordable for everyone.

Ladies, those reasons for not investing in yourself.. are no longer legit. There is no reason you don't deserve some self-love! All that's holding you back, is yourself!

Perfect prepping tips for your Boudoir Experience.

Here are some tips for finding the looks that will enhance your natural beauty, personality and sensuality during your shoot.

Visualize the clothing, sexy heels, accessories, and wonderful props you will want to wear for your shoot. Flip through your favorite fashion magazines for more examples on ways the pair colors, fabrics, and styles for easy runway glamour.
Shop your closet for your go to items when you want to feel sexy (and look) your very best. Let your imagination free.
Grab a style savvy go to friend and hit the stores to find a super sexy flattering outfit that not only sexy, but comfortable and relaxed.
Pick out lingerie that highlights your beautiful curves, but please remember sometimes a too tight tee shirt, soft sweater, or oversized button down shirt can be even sexier. Let your personality shine through.
Don't forget to bring something meaningful to you or your significant other; this serves as a great way to personalize your shoot. I have even had a client pose with her husbands police hat to make it more personal for him.

Five days before your shoot...

If you wax, do so a few days prior to your shoot to avoid redness and bumps.
Make sure eyebrows and nicely shaped and groomed.
If your planning to visit the salon for a haircut or color, give yourself a few days to make sure your happy with it.
Be sure to get a salon manicure and pedicure for a flawless finish.
Stay out of the sun- while a basic tan will be nice in photos, red blotchy skin will not.
PLEASE - DO NOT SPRAY TAN.
Drink plenty of water for luminous skin.
Lower your salt intake and avoid alcohol, if your worried about retaining water.
Try on your outfits and lingerie to make sure they fit properly; remove all tags and labels. Steam or iron your ensembles and hang them properly so they keep their shape.

The day before your shoot...

Bathe, shave, and moisturize.
Where those loose fitting clothes to your session to avoid red-marks on your skin (no jeans, tight socks, or tight clothing for instance).
Eat some thing light but filling.
Arrive with a clean, moisturized face and CLEAN HAIR! (This is important.)
Take a deep breath and RELAX. It is completely normal to be a wee bit nervous before your shoot, but please don't worry. You will be in good hands. I will show you exactly how to pose and help you to get the best shots possible. :)
MOST IMPORTANT!! Have fun!

5 Tips of How to Relax during your Boudie Session

Below are a few tips that I have compiled to help you relax on the day of your shoot. Some of these I even do in studio to help.

Deep Breathing – Practice deep breathing. This is a proven relaxation method. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your nose. Repeat until you feel better.

Take a Break – If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we can take a break from shooting and talk and relax before resuming the session.

Drink – Not to get drunk, but a glass of wine before your shoot might help take that edge off. While I don't offer wine or alcohol in studio I do offer bottled water.

I mean it's not every day you strip down for a stranger and placed into a pose feels particularly exposed or is something you wouldn’t normally do. Heck, even with the camera is right on top of you for some detail shots, I can totally see getting a little uncomfortable. But that's why you chose an amazing photographer for your boudoir photos. How to choose the best Lingerie to suite your body

"I have no idea what to wear, what do you recommend?"

So, in order to help answer this question I have compiled a little information to help you out.

First things first, find your body type. There are many different types of shapes however, all those shapes fit into one of these categories.

You have the Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle, and Inverted-triangle.

To figure out which of these you are, you will need to do two things.

Measure your bust, waist (at its smallest part), and hips (at their largest part)
Look at a full size mirror and assess your silhouette (the outline of your body) from front and sideways view

If your bust measurements are the same or very close to your hips measurement and you have a well defined waist – you are an Hourglass type.

If your bust line, waist and hips are equal or very similar (there is no a defined waist) you are Rectangle body type. Also when you look at yourself from the side your bottom may look flat.

If your bust line is broader than your hips in measurements and when looking at your silhouette sideways you are most likely an Inverted-Triangle.

Now the fun part, we have covered body types and you have a pretty good idea as to which you are, so we can figure out what lingerie looks best on each body type.

New Year, not so new me!

We all say it, “New Year, New Me!” Translating into, I'm going to change something about myself this year.

Well, as I look back over my personal life, my business, and my work I can truly say that I have grown but I am pretty much the same old me and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. At my core, I am still the person that I have always been. I enjoy laughing and having a good time. I’m a mom-boss who seems to be stressed more then not. I love food and when children allow a nice glass of wine. An artist, true and true, even to a fault. Emotional and sensitive, yet cold and abrasive at times. I care about others even to the detriment of myself and my own well being sometimes, and even in those moments I would still say that it was worth it.

As my first year of specializing in boudoir comes to a successful close, it feels I am opening a new chapter in my life. There was so much that went into building and restarting the business into boudoir last year that it was hard to sit back and really think on it. So to start 2022 I wanted to celebrate myself and my victories in the only way I would tell anyone else to celebrate themselves, with a bad ass boudoir session! That’s right, I did one too and it wont be the last! You can expect one every year from here on out, because as difficult as it is to look at your own flaws in the editing room, I feel incredibly proud of myself and these portraits!

Why I shoot Boudoir

Many times I have been asked why I chose to shoot Boudoir. So I wanted to sit down and give my feelings on why Boudoir is so important to me.

Women in our country spend so much of their lives feeling insecure over their bodies. Instead of embracing who they are right now, they constantly look back on how they used to be or even worse, how someone else looks.

Heck, I’m guilty of it. But the thing is, others don't view us as we see ourselves. We look in the mirror and see lack of makeup, late nights with sick kiddos, stress balls with a bad hair day. While my husband reminds me how beautiful I am daily. You see, I struggle to see what my husband sees. Just like every other woman out there. We criticize ourselves to the max. and for some weird reason love to compare ourselves to everyone else.
There was an article from 1997 that said 56% of almost 4,000 women that were surveyed were unhappy with their overall appearance and 89% wanted to lose weight! Clearly this feeling is every bit as relevant over 20 years later. Which is crazy!

Boudoir celebrates women. Even though, most women often book a boudoir session for their significant other, they end up realizing it’s more for them. They see how beautiful, sexy and special they are . I find that I really enjoy being able to connect with my clients on a more personal level. I discovered how much of a confidence boost these shoots are and how empowered my clients felt after their session, especially once they see their images!

I love being able to create an experience that enables a woman to love and appreciate who they are. It means so much more than just having their picture taken. The photo is usually a gift for their significant other but the experience is ALL for her. It’s a beautiful self-transformation and as a photographer, an amazing gift to be able to provide someone!

Why I specialize Boudoir

If you would have asked me 10 years ago where I saw my business and what I'd be shooting. I'd more then likely respond with every genre of photography imaginable. However, over the past 10 years I have learned which genre's really speak to me. When I took the plunge last year to specifically do Boudoir I was so afraid to fail. But, I worked on manifesting good energy and hoped for the best. As hard as 2021 was, it was the best year of my photography career! I loved being able to share moments with my clients, hear their stories and watch their confidence be renewed right before my eyes! There wasn't one session I didn't get excited to shoot, and to me. That is a wonderful feeling! I can only hope that 2022 will be just as amazing!

Skip the resolution this year!

Every year, we spend the last few days trying to come up with a good New Years resolution. Some of them are pretty typical... losing weight, finishing our honey-do lists, learning a new language. Some of them are more complex, like starting a business, learning to play guitar or letting go of a past failing or trauma.

I’m telling you to skip that this year. That's right.... toss those resolution thoughts to the side.

Think about it. Why do we make resolutions to begin on a “new year”? Why is the slogan “new year, new me!” so popular?

Is there really anything wrong with the old you???? Most likely, no. Is there really anything that needs changing, or do you just need a perspective shift?

Stop putting so much pressure on yourself to change who you are. Don’t promise yourself you’ll lose weight. Don’t promise yourself that you’ll buy that gym membership or talk to a surgeon about a tummy tuck. Don’t promise to change yourself, as if there’s something really wrong with you.

You are a perfectly imperfect human being. You are not a side, you are a main dish. You’re valuable and beautiful and incredibly important to more people than you could possibly know. You don’t need to change who you are. It’s a lot easier to learn to accept who you are. The weight on a scale and the scars on your skin do not define you.

Learning to love yourself isn’t easy. It isn’t something you can cross of your list and say “Great! I’m all done!” It takes daily work and affirmations. It takes effort and it comes with the knowledge that some days, you won’t achieve that goal. But it’s a lot cheaper than surgery. It’s a lot less painful than stepping on a scale and being disappointed that you don’t see the number you wanted to see. It’s even cheaper than a $20 gym membership.

IF you want to go to the gym this year to be healthier, go for it.

If you want to schedule surgery to feel confident in your skin, do that.

But please, PLEASE don’t make huge life changes because you think you have to.

Don’t make huge life changes because you think that’s what the world wants to see.

Don’t make a New Years resolution because everyone else is and because you think that this is the year you’ll finally achieve something that’ll make you “worth” anything. You’re already worth everything to the right people. Now you just need to show that value to yourself and embrace you!

Why does Boudoir cost so much?

Boudoir is not your typical JC Penny or Walmart photo session, and it shouldn't be compared to it either.

While some may associate Boudoir with soft porn, it's not. Rather, its an intimate, private method of expression. As such it is a special, intimate style of photography that requires intricate attention to detail to give the subjects a very special experience. As well as something that is classic and timeless they can be proud of for years to come.

Rather than being into the Walmart Studio or an amateur's side hustle, boudoir is the only type of photography that connects the client with themselves on a deeply personal level. It's celebrating yourself in a manner that was ignored or neglected for many years due to other commitments and responsibilities. Boudoir is focused on self-care, empowerment, recovery, and celebrating the best version of yourself. It's done for yourself or gift to your intimate partner. Your investing in yourself in a way that will pay for itself.

All in all I will be blunt. You get what you pay for. For those of you, like me, who have body art, you pay for quality. I can't recall the amount of women who have had previous "boudoir" sessions with another photographer and hated it. Most commonly saying they felt rushed, had no guidance, posing was horrible and didn't help highlight their best features.

They were hired because they were cheap and in the end the client was dissatisfied.

A good boudoir photographer is trained in understanding the complex vulnerabilities of human emotion. We are your biggest supporter in making you feel empowered and secure in the skin your in. No matter age, size, or demographic, you deserve to feel amazing.

People pay what they feel value in. For example a $1200 iPhone is way out of a lot of peoples price range, yet many people find a way to pay for that phone. The most common way with a payment plan. Boudoir Photography is the same way.

The planning and prep that is done behind the scenes takes a great deal of investment and capital. A good competent Boudoir Photographer will have a professional Hair and Makeup artist included. Some photographers even include lingerie for clients while others don't. Studio location rentals and set ups are also not cheap. Custom albums, wall art, shipping costs, editing software, and equipment makeup a good chunk of expenses. Little novel items such as gift bags begin to add up. Do you want to take pictures with our Lux couture wings? Those cost the photographer. Do you want photos with those amazing sets? You guessed it, it all takes money. And it's all coming out of the photographer's pocket. Travel, licensing fees add up as well. Want to recreate a look you saw from pinterest? The photographer is continually researching and purchasing supplies to make your photo-shoot the best experience ever. Marketing, running ads and other overhead costs are all the expenses photography businesses have to pay. And this doesn't include making a living to feed their family, pay the bills, and provide a decent quality of life for themself.

While some people retort with "I just want the digitals to print somewhere else." Do you really want to take your photos to your neighborhood Walgreens or Walmart for some random stranger looking at you in various stages of undress? Also some print companies will not print your photos due to the varying degrees of nudity. Remember earlier that I said some people view Boudoir as porn? Well unless you know a boudoir friendly print shop you might get rejected.

For a JC Penny or Walmart session, while you show up with your matching outfits for your family portraits they are not making your session customized and unique. It's the same backdrop, no assistance in posing, no adjustments to the lighting, like McDonald's, it's point, shoot, go, next customer. The amount of training a photographer does to get the lighting, posing, and lines right for your specific body type is another expense. A true artist will invest in ensuring your session is an amazing experience.

You get what you pay for in life. While some things are available in a Ritz Cracker budget, moments of self-care and love should be a Ritz Carlton experience. A Chrissy Smith Boudoir experience is definitely the latter. I have been shooting Boudoir enough where I have heard it all. With so many women comparing themselves to the women on my website and social platforms, not realizing they ARE those women. Everyone you see is a real person just like you who has their own insecurities.

Yeah, they do look amazing... and sexy AF, but guess what??? If you put your fears aside and come in to see me. That could be you as well. I decided to make a blog post about the most common excuses I have heard in the industry when it comes to women talking themselves out of Boudoir.

#1 BS Excuse:

"I need to lose weight first"

BULLSHIT. Says who? Why? EVERY person has weight and body esteem issues. Boudoir is about empowerment. And empowerment and confidence is for everyone. I have photographed every size and body type and they are all equally stunning. Boudoir is a gift for yourself, always. I have clients come in only doing this for a gift for a special someone sometimes, and come back to tell me that they discovered how much of a gift it actually was for themselves. ”I'm too old”

Whatever! I have photographed women even approaching their 70’s. Age is truly only a number. If you have waited this long already to celebrate your temple of a body, why wait any longer?

”I can’t afford it”

Here’s the truth: everybody has a body, and boudoir can help women realize that their own, real bodies are sexiest. I mean lets face it, our bodies carry us through everything life can throw at us. How to prepare for a flawless boudoir shoot?

A little preparation can go a long way to help your shoot be the best it can be! Here are some simple tips to help you prep for your boudoir shoot.

A WEEK BEFORE YOUR SHOOT

Maintain a healthy skin regimen

Cleanse skin daily and wear sunscreen
Use an anti aging serum regularly
Exfoliate the skin 1-3 times a week

Keep skin hydrated

Limit alcohol intake and drink lots of water
Stay away from salty foods
Moisturize your skin daily

Shave, Wax, or thread the following (optional):

facial hair
brows
arm hair/leg hair
bikini area

THINGS TO PREPARE THE DAY BEFORE YOUR SHOOT

Get a mani/pedi

Choose a nail polish shade that matches your outfits
Exfoliate the bottom of your feet

Wardrobe

Try on ALL of your lingerie to make sure they fit properly
Clean bottom of high heels because they may show in photos.

THE DAY OF YOUR SHOOT

Hair and Makeup

Arrive with clean dry hair
Arrive with a clean moisturized face

Day of clothing

Do not wear tight clothing on your portrait day – such as socks and jeans… anything that can leave marks on your skin

Eat something filling

Eat something light but filling before you leave for your shoot. You will need your energy for all the posing you will do

Lotion and Lip Balm

Moisturize your whole body before the session, especially areas like hands, elbows, and knees that can get dry.
A thick layer of lip balm will keep chapped lips away

Set your GPS

Allow plenty of time to get to the location without stressing. Check weather and traffic reports to ensure you have allotted enough time for unexpected delays

Modest Boudoir!?!?! Yes, you read that right. No, it’s not an oxymoron either! Yeah, I know, I know. Today, everywhere we go we are made to feel that there is something wrong with being sexy. But in truth. There is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling sexy!

However, there’s something so beautiful, romantic, and yes, even innocent, about doing a boudoir photoshoot…but also, sexiness has its place too.

For the single ladies, boudoir photography is empowering! Sure there are those who claim boudoir isn't what we make it out to be. But to see the change in the women who have entered my studio for a shoot and how they are when they leave. Sorry but actions speak louder then words. There’s just something about getting your hair & makeup done professionally, then seeing photos of your body that make you realize you are more beautiful than you ever believed & that new-found, head-to-toe confidence in yourself can help you land someone special.

I’ll admit that I’m not the most risque boudoir photographer around & that I’m very selective in what I post and even with client permission, you won’t see EVERY photo I shoot on my website.

With all that being said, I’m sharing a few modest boudoir photography shoot ideas from sessions I’ve done in the past. These looks are the perfect mixture of soft & feminine to make any woman who’s a little nervous about her boudoir shoot feel more like a princess than a vixen. Not that one is better than the other. We just understand that all different types of women come to our studio & we’ve honestly been forgetting to talk about the softer side of boudoir photography here on our blog.

Sweaters

Give your photo-shoot a cozy feel! Wrap yourself up in a cardigan or wear a pull-over sweater to cover up a bit more.

Button Downs

Get a little more personal and borrow a button-down shirt from your significant other. This idea helps keep things modest while also adding a personal touch to your session.

Robes

Robes are a natural option for modest boudoir sessions. They fit right in with your lingerie, sometimes even included in matching sets. We also have a few of our own robes in the studio for you to use!

Dresses

There are no rules that say you must wear lingerie for your boudoir session. If you want to wear your favorite dress for one of your looks, go for it!

How to choose your Boudoir Photographer

So, you have been thinking about doing a Boudoir session for some time now, but you want to make sure you make the best choice possible for your photographer. I know how important this experience is for you, and it's my aim to make the process as simple and stress free as possible from start to finish. I also tell clients that I'd love to be there photographer. However, I understand my style is not for everyone. So in this post I want to be able to give you some guidance so you have the best experience in finding a boudoir photographer.

Make sure the Photographer is a full service!

Boudoir is an intimate experience that many women only do once in a lifetime. So you want to select a photographer who will treat you like your session is the special occasion it is. This means your experience should include everything from hair and makeup to pose coaching and ordering products for you. You shouldn't be left to figure out posing on your own or where you can safely get your images printed. When you have a photographer who handles all these things for you, you know you're getting the best the industry has to offer.

Consider their work closely.

Compare, compare, compare. You want t be sure to check out their website. Yes, a website! In the world of Facebook and Instagram being easier, I personally would be weary of any "boudoir photographer" who doesn't have an actual website for their business. A website shows they have a working business and typically gives you alot of good information about the Studio/photographer and how it/they work. Checking out their work also allows you to be able to access their style and skill level. Do they have a diverse clientele that demonstrates they can provide hair and makeup for all skin tones and hair? Do they know how to properly light both fair skin and deep tones? Do they know how to pose all different shapes and sizes beautifully and naturally? Paying attention to these close details will help you to make the best decision when choosing.

Experience

Does this photographer specialize in boudoir or do they shoot everything as well as boudoir? I mean lets face it. If you had a heart condition you wouldn't go to a foot doctor would you? With boudoir photography, it is best to select a photographer who is passionate about giving you the best they can offer.

Know who will be present

Ask if the photographer will be working with an assistant. Know who will be present at your shoot to determine what your comfortable with on the day of your session.

Read reviews or ask for references!

Nothing tells the truth like others' personal experiences. Check their website, or even join their VIP group on FB if they have one and ask questions to past clients. Like I said above, make sure they have a web presence on Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc. A fully functioning business is going to be on more than one platform to advertise their business. This allows you to check them all out and get a better feel for them.

Choose someone who makes you feel comfortable

Meet and speak with the photographer. Most professional boudoir photographers will have no problem getting on the phone with you and answering any questions or concerns you may have. Personally I do a phone consult with each client. This allows me to get a feel for my client and for my client to get a feel for me before committing to anything. Remember, you want to feel confident and comfortable going into your shoot. This is an amazing investment and you want to be sure to get the best experience you can!

Our Products | Our Collections

So you know what you want to buy, now lets talk payments and the other unique options Chrissy Smith Photography offers to their clients! We understand this process can be a bit daunting, but our goal is to always make it as easy as possible for our clients to have the best experience ever!

Payment Plans

This is very commonly over analyzed and clients often get so confused about this. We offer a few options for getting everything you want but breaking up the total costs into smaller payments.

Paypal Credit: This is an option I highly recommend checking out! Its a 6 month zero percent interest credit line through paypal that allows you to pay me up front, receive your product quicker, and still allows you to make payments after the session. If you like this route, apply for it well before your session so you know how much your spending limit it!

In-House Payment Plan: We offer a break up to your product order, in house. We do have a few guidelines to explain!

No products will be ordered until the entire invoice is paid in full.
A minimum 1/3 down payment must be paid to begin the payment plan. This is typically the first payment for the payment plan
You can break up the payments up to 6 months (however, I am willing to work with clients needs).
The payments can be broken up in half/third/quarters, monthly, bi monthly, or every other week. We are very flexible on how you break up the payments
You fully choose when the due dates are for the payments. We love helping you plan around pay days.
You are responsible for making the payments on time. You will be emailed a reminder 2 days before its due. We allow up to 5 days past due before a $25 late payment will be applied. This late payment is applied to each time a payment is late.
If you miss 3 payments, with zero communication to us to restructure the payment plan, then your payment plan will be canceled, and you will have to pay the remainder in full.

My goal for offering payment plan options is to make everything as easy and flexible for you! You can have payment plans started as early as you booking your session! The earlier you start the payment plan the sooner you receive your products!

Favorite shops for all (Part 1!)

I have a couple go-to's for lingerie. Whether it's to stock up my client closet, or I want to surprise hubby I have a couple go-to's. So... this will be a couple different posts since there are a few places.

Fave shops for all-things lingerie Clothes can be frustrating to shop for - especially when it comes to a sensual boudoir session. But, there is something out there for you. I promise!

One thing I suggest: Finding a lingerie boutique with real one-on-one help. The people working are experienced with different body types and know what might suit your needs. Don't be afraid to ask a worker, friend, or even your boudoir photographer for help when trying to find the perfect outfit. When you shop at a boutique or storefront dedicated to lingerie, they will help size and measure you.

Finding a "real" lingerie shop is actually harder then you would think. But luckily I have done the hard work for you. One of my favorite Lingerie shops to shop at is Underneath it all located in Camp Hill, PA. This quaint little shop is AMAZING. From lingerie to corsets and more, this shop has it all. Their prices are about the same as Victoria's Secret, however, I cannot say more about the quality of their products and how well they hold up in comparison to VS. The best part... they offering fitting appointments where they will happily fit you for bra and lingerie!

So, now that we have a lingerie shop in mind. Let's figure out what look you want to go for: Dramatic, sexy, classy, pinup, bridal, or completely unclothed. Figuring out your boudoir wardrobe can be exciting! Choose your favorite colors and try on plenty of various types of lingerie. Quick tips: I recommend bringing at least one bra and panty set to your shoot.

Anything with an underwire or extra shaping; like a pushup bra or corset. Try on different textured outfits. This could be satin, lace, mesh, net, beading, etc. Don't be afraid to try out bodysuits, corsets, thigh highs, stockings, knee-high socks, teddys, high-wasted underwear, and slips. You'd be surprised to see what flatters you the most! Plus you'll have a blast during your fitting and find what flatters your figure the most.

Normally Underneath it all books their fittings 2 weeks out, so be sure to give them a call and schedule with them a minimum of 2 weeks before your session.

No matter if you're a newbie or returning client, those butterflies will always pop up! How do you release the tension and capture your authentic self?

Rest, rest, rest.
The night before, be sure to get enough sleep. Turn off the electronics (step away from the phone!), turn on a fan, and keep it dark! Have everything you're bringing ready and prepared. Outfits, accessories, and anything else relevant to your session.
Get to know your photographer! Don't be afraid to ask questions and ask for advice from your photographer. I promise we aren't scary! This is one of the reasons I do a VIP group. This allows me to post things about me and my personal life as well as business so my clients can see I am a real person.
Get in front of a mirror and practice. I know this sounds funny but move your body, see what angles you like, try out different expressions, and feel comfortable moving around!
Be sure to have a professional hair and makeup artist. Especially if you recognize you aren't so great at it or stress about looking your best, this could make significant changes to your appearance. I personally offer this as part of my Boudoir Experience. This allows my clients to not have to worry about going to a salon for hair and then beautician for makeup prior to our shoot. This also allows more time for my clients to be pampered and relax before their shoot.

All these things will insure you will be relaxed and ready for a fun filled day of pampering and fun.

It's time to retrain your negative thoughts and how you feel about yourself! Try identifying your negative beliefs. Challenge those and ask yourself questions: Is it true? Is there evidence? Most likely, they aren't true. Be positive about yourself. I know saying this is a lot easier then doing, but look at it this way. That perfect person you adore? That person who seems to have it all together with the perfect life and family. They have flaws, too. The truth is, everyone does. That's what makes us all Human. But just because you aren't "perfect" doesn't mean you can't be happy with yourself.

The secret... be happy, give yourself grace, and be content with yourself.

Yeah, sure easy enough to say right. Well, I have a challenge for you. I want you to write a list of things you're good at and what you love most about yourself. You love your eyes, great! Tell me why. You love your singing, amazing! Tell me why. Love your job, even better... tell me why. You name it I want all those positive things you LOVE about yourself and all those thing you are really good at on that list.

So why am I asking you to write this dumb list?? Well, simple. This list is a great daily reminder to look at! If you are feeling down about yourself, just take a look at your list and read off all those wonderful things that make you YOU.

If your worried there are people in your life who are toxic and don't build you up, well...avoid them. You don't need negativity in your life. The relationships in your life should be encouraging and positive, not try to beat you down. This is tough if the person or people are family members or close friends. But think about it. If they really, honest to god cared about you. Wouldn't they want to see you happy?

So ladies, be kind to yourself. Smile often. Don't be too critical. And most of all laugh! Embrace you, all of you and practice that self-love and your self-esteem will shine through!

There's so much more to boudoir than just being in the nude. Sexy isn't defined by what you don't wear - it's the emotions, the posing, and the feel of it all. When it comes to finding something comfortable to wear and still feeling beautiful, we have an answer for you.

Bodysuits.

You shouldn't feel on the fence about boudoir if clothing is what's holding you back. Bodysuits are coming in hot, and they're to die for. You see them almost everywhere nowadays. These hot one-pieces come in a variety of fun styles, patterns, colors, and cuts. Everyone needs this modern staple in their wardrobe.

Why do we love them so much? Easy; they flatter everyone! We mean that. If you're uncomfortable with your stomach region... bodysuit. If you want to be somewhat modest... bodysuit. If you don't want your back to show... bodysuit.

There are loads of questions we are asked when it comes to these: Do you wear undies with them? How do I wear them? What types of bottoms should I wear with them? How do I use the bathroom in one? Why do they look like swimsuits?

You know how baby onesies snap at the bottoms? These do the same thing - making your bathroom trips not-so-complicated. Unlike a romper, there's no need to take it completely off. The whole purpose of a bodysuit is to provide a seamless, tightened, and tuck-in look. Suppose you are considering wearing one during your boudoir session. In that case, there are typically two different bottom styles: Thong and full coverage.

There are endless varieties of colors and styles out there, from lace, see-through, leather, office-casual, and so much more. They are straightforward, and you can mix and match any type of bottoms with them, such as skirts, shorts, capris, or jeans. It's entirely up to you.

You don't have to wear a bra or underwear with them, thank goodness! When it comes to posing, we must say it maximizes the session to make it hotter than hot! We love seeing seductive wall or chair posing with these. Legs are always accentuated and elongated - trust us!

I know I have said this time and time again, but ladies.... YOU CANNOT LOSE YOUR SEXY!

"Sexy" people do certain things... and those thing, just enhance the appeal you already have.

We all want to look good - right? But does it mean starving yourself or hitting up the gym every chance you get? No. Ha! Take me for example, I try to work out 10 minutes every day, I do a small fitness video and can do great with it. However, I tend to get sidetracked with kids, or lucky me, when aunt flo comes to visit. And next thing you know it's been weeks since I last worked out LMAO.

Okay, so if we aren't working out how do we get sexy?

Sex appeal. How can you achieve this? Think about it. Whether you're trying to score a date or simply feeling better about yourself, we all have these thoughts.

The first thing to do: BE YOURSELF. Don't try to be something your not. Be confident in who you are and own it! Confidence in yourself speaks wonders.

Okay, so you're not up-to-date on fashion trends. That's okay! We believe fashion stems from personalities. The main thing you want to aim for is being comfortable. When you're cozy, you can be yourself and relax. Have a friend help you decide what compliments you the most!

POV: No matter who you are, cleanliness is key. Personal grooming matters and does wonders for your appearance. Take some time to style your hair, trim your nails and pluck those stray brows. Not saying take this to the max but have you ever noticed the different look or reactions you get from when you have that messy mom bun and sweats on vs when you did your hair, makeup, and actually took some time to choose something to wear?

Last but not least - SMILE. That is your best accessory. A happy person is more approachable and personable. A little love and laughter go a long way!!!

Ooh la la!

Today I have a very special boudoir blog post for you. It features Jennifer Aniston... Okay so we didn't shoot Jennifer A but I swear, Miss Brittani, could have been her twin! This gorgeous and confident woman was an absolute pleasure to work with. As you can see, she is extremely photogenic.

For her session we used several of our indoor sets and our outdoor claw-foot tub set. Her hair and makeup were done by Athena, who did an impeccable job as always.

Once Brittani was finished getting pampered and perfected, we began the shoot. She brought several super adorable changes of clothing for the session and I loved them all. Especially the studded shoes! Can I just say how much I really want to get a pair of these now.

After the shoot Brittani shared, " I felt so sexy and confident while shooting and still do!"

You’ve gotten your boudoir session booked, now it’s time for the fun part. Shopping! Where do you even begin to start your search for the perfect boudoir session wardrobe with all the options available out there? It doesn’t have to be overwhelming and I’m here to help you find just the right pieces for your photo-shoot.

The one thing I highly recommend if you are planning to buy some new lingerie, get yourself measured! You may find the prettiest bra ever, but if it’s ill-fitting, it’s not going to make for very flattering photos. Here’s a link to doing your bra measurements yourself at home, along with some extra tips from Third Love to make sure you have a proper fit! Once you know your proper size, let’s get started on where you can find a wardrobe to match your boudoir style!

Shop your own closet!

The best pieces are going to be ones that you feel most comfortable in, and you likely have a few of those already in your closet! And remember, it doesn’t have to all be lingerie for your session. I love things like a basic white tank top, a flirty tee, oversized/off-shoulder sweater or cardigan, a lacy robe, sheer top, pantyhose/stockings, etc. Check that closet first and save some of your wardrobe money for more prints!

Why is Boudoir so expensive?

When people inquire for my Boudoir photography pricing, I tell them:

“The average clients usually spends somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000 on their reservation & image collection.”

THEN, they say things like:

“You charge how much? That has to be a mistake.”

“That's insane, there is no possible way I can afford that.”

“This is nowhere near what I thought it was going to cost.”

“I was hoping to spend a couple hundred dollars at most.”

I realized to most people, they only see photography as an easy thing to do…

“Just holding a camera, and clicking a button”;

but… its not even remotely that simple.

DID YOU KNOW?

There are literally hundreds of photographers in just our local area alone charging prices ranging from $20 to $20,000 for their artistry; and that in the United States, the average photographer makes only $31,000 per year? When you count everything we're going to discuss below, most photographers are actually only making between $12 and $15 an hour!

Here are 9 reasons why boudoir photography is so expensive:

1. "There's a lot of time involved."

For Starters, my boudoir photo-shoot experience isn't a in and out, JC Penny type of thing. There’s a reason I call it “An Experience”. I call it this, because your total experience is 3 and a half hours of time. From the hour of getting luxuriously pampered with our hair and makeup professionals, to your hour reveal appointment

In addition to that, you should also include the time spent on editing and retouching your images once the session is over, just think, I show on average 150 images at our reveal. Lets say each of those images takes 5 minutes to edit/retouch. That's 12 and a half hours of editing and retouching (any that's only giving me 5 minutes per image!!!). Then after the editing and retouching is complete I have to upload you images into the gallery for your reveal, then there's designing the albums, communicating back and forth before and after the session, etc. You can see how the time really ads up.

2. “The amenities aren’t free.”

When you have an experience that is as luxurious as the one my studio is providing, you have to consider that there would be a lot of cost in order to provide those services. Your pampering, the lingerie we include, jewelry, Angel wing props, etc are definitely not free. I pay for all of that. To insure you get amazing images!

3. “My team is well paid. They aren’t volunteers.”

You may not realize it, but there are a lot of people involved in making your shoot happen…

~ There’s the glam team themselves (Joy and Athena) who gets paid to beautify every single client who walks in the door.

BOTTOM LINE IS: No one is donating their services. I pay them well, they work hard, and they do an amazing job. They always go above and beyond for my clients, and they love to exceed expectations!

4. “Photography gear is not cheap”

Now, I have a lot of gear that I have purchased in the past few years. So here is some more information on what I use & how much things costs:

5. “Software adds up”

Not only is there gear, but you also need a lot of software to run and operate a photography business! My costs for software alone are over $7,000 a year!

6.“Unlike most photographers, I have studio expenses.”

Sure, most photographers can meet you outside at your favorite park, or at your home, a hotel, or another place to take photos, but I actually have a studio where I work from, meet with clients, and do my Boudoir sessions. I do own my studio building, however this doesn't mean I don't pay for this space. I pay mortgage which a percentage is considered rent for my studio space and utilities, just like any other photographer with a studio. Plus I am responsible for any upgrades/renovations needed along the way. Remember, If I don't have any clients, I still have to pay for the space, and it’s not cheap.

None of that even counts what I purchase for my studio. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on my studio lingerie collection, my custom bedroom sets, furniture, jewelry, props and accessories, bedding, candles, audio visual equipment, photography equipment, sample albums, wall art, and other printed products to display...

7. “I pay to be a better photographer.”

There are SO many awesome resources for people in the industry. Private workshops, national conventions, conferences, online courses, business coaches, mentors, and mastermind groups. None of these things are ever cheap but they are worth every penny for the knowledge and education you receive and get to take with you.

I personally have 2 business coaches, partake in a mastermind group, continue to take many online classes, save up for large conventions, and book a private workshop at least once a year.

8. “It costs money to run a legal business.”

If anyone is offering boudoir photo-shoots for under $200, they probably aren’t running a legal photography business or they are just starting out and don’t realize the costs of business quite yet.

When I first started as a photographer I charged basically nothing. $25-$100 (Yep. I really did that. lol) After doing that for a few years, and seeing how much things cost, I had to raise my pricing quite a bit. I used that money to help get my business started & purchased new gear, got a new studio, upgraded everything in it, and set myself up right. When I got the paperwork for my business, I then realized I have to pay taxes, hire an accountant, pay sales tax for physical goods, and, woof, the list of expenses grew and grew.

9.“You are paying for Professionalism, Experience, & Quality”

I have dedicated my life to helping women see how beautiful they actually are through my art; and I am not just talking about on the surface.

My goal is to help women illuminate their authentic self, feel confident in their own skin, and give them the ability to love what they see in the mirror each day.

You don't need to change anything about you before your boudoir!

As I was sitting in my bath relaxing the other evening, I just so happened to think about how I haven’t shaved my legs... in a week.
This automatically had me feeling I needed to shave the forest down - but stopped to think… you know what? THAT’S FREAKING FINE. The world didn’t end because of my hairy legs, did it?! In truth, I had been so busy I didn't even think about it, until that moment in the tub.

BUT, my stubbly legs got me thinking about my business and how most women wouldn’t be caught dead without shaving their legs at their session. Or just in general. But in truth, it’s just hair. I meant body hair is normal. And who does my hair effect? Literally nobody. And I’m fine and comfortable in my body in this moment and THAT is what matters.

I know you’re thinking, why are you telling me this Chrissy?! But truthfully, it's not just about the body hair. It’s about our bodies in general, and being okay with where we are in this very moment. It’s hard and I completely 100% understand that. I have so many women afraid of SO many different things before booking their experience.

They want to lose weight.
They want to tan away their complexion.
They want to shave / wax their entire body.
They want to dye their grays away.
They want to get a mole removed.
They want to get plastic surgery.
And the list goes on… and on… and on…

But it’s important to remember that Boudoir is about loving the YOU RIGHT NOW. What does that mean? It means embracing every single part of you that exists. Body hair. Stretch marks. Gray hairs. Chunky thighs. Thin thighs. Stubbly legs. And everything in-between.

That doesn’t mean that you cannot do any and all of the things above, but the important thing to know is that IT IS NOT REQUIRED for you to book a session or for you to feel beautiful. If these things help you see your own beauty, just like getting your makeup on in the AM, or doing your hair.

PLEASE if you do these things, do them for yourself. But know you NEVER need to change unless you want to do it just for you.

Your body is a beautiful Story!

My body serves as several reminders and stories of my life. Not all of them are good. But they are important, and they are part of what makes me, me.

One of the stories my body tells is the story of my children. Like many woman, my body holds the proof of children including tiger stripes and mommy pouch. However, for me it holds a bit more of a story from my daughter.

In 2011, a couple months into being engaged, Eric and I found out I was pregnant with Raelee. Both of us were excited, nervous, but excited. A couple months in, I started gaining weight, and I mean REALLY gaining weight. This made not sense to me as what I craved was salads, not "junk food". So I started to question my OB when I went in. This led to numerous glucose testing which always came back negative and clear of any problems, including gestational diabetes. I was confused, and quite unhappy. I had finally gotten to a weight I was happy with pre-pregnancy and now I was gaining like crazy. Over the next several months I ended up going from a very content 150lbs to over 300 lbs! Gaining over 150 lbs that no one could tell me why, only saying that it was hormonal and happens to some women. I was upset but I had a beautiful daughter. In the following 6 years I tried everything to get back to pre-baby body. I worked out for a year 3-4 days a week at the Y, I tried nutrisystem, Dr. put me on diet pills.... nothing, and I mean NOTHING worked. Then a friend of mine mentioned gastric sleeve. At this point I was ready to jump all in. I talked with hubby and explained my thoughts and concerns, which brought us to talking about baby #2. Up till this point due to Raelee's labor, we had said no more kiddos. However, I knew Eric always wanted two kiddos and I wasn't supper apposed to giving Raelee a brother or sister. I just hoped for a better pregnancy and labor then Raelee.

In Jan of 2017 we decided we were going to try for baby #2, and after I would look into what I needed to do to get fit again. That Mother's day we happily announced we were pregnant with Gage and on January 4th he made his way, rather easily into this world (thank god, lol). With Gage's pregnancy I worried about gaining even more weight as I was already at 290-300 lbs and the last thing I wanted was more weight. I feared for my health and wanted to be sure I would be around to see my children grow. So, 2 months later, after Gage arrived into the world I looked into Gastric Sleeve and started the 6 month process to getting healthy.

August of 2018 I had surgery, and months later I went from my "starting weight" of 288lbs to 180 lbs by May 3rd of 2019. I had lost 100lbs and was still loosing. Today, I went from a size 26-28 to a size 8-10!

Through this whole story, I gained a lot of loose skin, stretch marks from gaining and then loosing all the weight, a apron from my mommy pouch, as well as scars from my surgery . Where the stretch marks and scars don't bug me, I do worry about some of the other places. However, this is my body, my story, and I love it. I wouldn't have two amazing children without it.

If there is one thing that really gets my creativity flowing, it's being in nature. Just being in the woods, with the fresh air and beauty that comes with Spring. I Love it.

Ever since we moved in last April all I could think about were all the cool ideas for shoots. Obviously back then, it was a mix of all genre's but now that I have dedicated myself to boudoir... yall, my mind has been spinning with ideas. And lucky enough it warmed up enough to not only get one of those ideas done, but I was able to get some photos in use as well!

What set am I speaking of? Most of you have already seen the sneak peeks I posted a few days ago. But for those who haven't I talking the claw-foot tub set! I still have a few things I want to add around it (some ivy and maybe some flowers) but those are really items that will make this set even more amazing in a year or two once they are able to grow a bit. For now, I am extremely happy with the outcome of this idea and am happy to say this set will be available for any of my Boudoir Experience sessions!

I have photographed many different genres over the years; Families, Newborns, Children... and each type is very special to me. But boudoir is something that has become one of my favorites. Maybe it’s because I am getting older and appreciate the changes a woman goes through with motherhood and the changes in their body. But, Making a woman look and feel beautiful is the most gratifying thing I’ve ever done. It’s the greatest gift to have a client look at her images and feel truly beautiful.

So, in this post I wanted to reveal some truths about boudoir. So you can feel confident booking with me, and in what you are truly signing up for:

Boudoir is about having a positive emotional experience.

It's a common misconception that boudoir is akin to porno, and that you have to be nude. Ladies, this is far from what truly happens at my sessions. It's about feeling confident in your own skin, and feeling like a woman. Boudoir can be incredibly healing for a woman going through a hard time in her life or health, and it can bring out your natural confidence. It's technically not a sexual type of photography, however, there is no shame in feeling sexy!

It is for EVERY body type!

Let's say this one together. There is NO ONE body type that is perfect for boudoir. It is not about being a Victoria Secret model. Everyone has insecurities with different parts of their bodies. Heck I just posted about one of mine on the VIP group page not that long ago. Whether your rocking tiger stripes after having children, you may not love your tummy, thighs, or tush. With years of experience, I have learned how to flatter everyone’s shape with posing and styling. That way, you can embrace and love yourself, because you are beautiful just the way you are!

It’s normal to be a little nervous

Nearly every client feels those nerves of getting so vulnerable in front of the camera! It's natural. This is why you should look for a photographer who is compassionate, caring, and someone who can relate. I have insecurities with my body just like any other woman and I have been through the different stages in life being a larger woman o being smaller and every size in between. So I relate to every woman who walks into my studio, and I never judge. It is my job to celebrate your beauty and empower you to have fun, and feel your best! I will also help you pose, so you don’t need to be stressed about “not knowing” what to do. I never ask a client to do anything they’re not comfortable with, and I will demonstrate poses when possible. I also carefully style you so everything is right before I take the photos.

We make sure you look amazing!

It is not all about the lingerie. Sadly, this is often a source of stress to some clients (I think it comes off much like bathing suit shopping, lol). You can be rest assured, when you book with me, you will receive a lingerie guide which will walk you through the best choices for your body type. It outlines which bras are best, and the different items you can bring to get a variety of looks. Some of the sexiest shots are in off-the-shoulder sweaters or team jerseys! I have a style consult with each client a few weeks before the shoot so you feel completely prepared and comfortable! We also provide professional hair and makeup, which also is a chance for you to feel pampered and relaxed (and one less thing for you to think about). Our makeup artist uses airbrush makeup which gives you that flawless look!

We never distribute your images without permission

Many clients wonder what happens to their very personal images after the shoot. I never share these with anyone without your express written consent, so you can feel confident I protect your privacy. These are YOUR images, and sharing them is your choice!

Boudoir is about REAL women. They are women in all stages of life, and going through all kinds of different circumstances. They come in to do portraits for all kinds of reasons: empowerment, confidence, celebration, healing, for a loved one, or just to experience something new and fun for themselves.

Places to display your boudoir photos that won't shock your mother.

I offer many different ways to preserve and present your photos. From albums and digitals, to passepartouts and wall art. However, one qualm that we would like to address is, “Where would you put an enlarged photo of yourself in lingerie?” This is actually something that I came across after my boudoir session. Hanging up an implied nudity photo over my couch would not impress my in-laws; however, I am sure my husband wouldn’t complain (lol). There is so much time, thought and nervous sweating that goes into a boudoir session and some may feel that putting these images in an album tucked away is a waste. I mean, obviously all of our clients look sexy AF so why not display your photos proudly on your wall so you can be reminded of this. Every. Single. Day.

So let’s talk about location, location location!

1. The Bedroom

This is the most obvious choice! The bedroom is where all the magic happens so, naturally, displaying your boudoir photos here would be the safest place. Perhaps placing them on a wall that is not immediately noticed as soon as you open your bedroom door would be a good idea if you have a nosey guest (or kids). I put my boudoir photos right next to my full-length mirror so I can be reminded how amazing I look every day (and to remind my husband ;) ).

2. The Master Bathroom

This would probably be the second-most private place in your home, the master bathroom. Girl, listen. . . if you have a soaking tub with wall space above it. . . I cannot think of a more perfect place to admire one’s naked self. Most would argue that boudoir photos are for your significant other. I, however, find it as a great confidence and self-esteem booster. Display your photos not only where he will see and enjoy them. . . you should enjoy them too!

3. The Walk-In Closet

If you want to keep your photos under wraps from nosey guests and children, consider using your photos as the centerpiece for your walk-in closet. The word "Boudoir" in French does mean a woman's private sitting room. So maybe the place where you keep all your styling clothes and shoes may be the perfect location for a enlarged empowering photo of yourself.

4. The Man Cave

When your man just needs to escape and get away from it all, why not give him a reminder of the gorgeous woman he is with? Some of my clients gift their products to their hubby. So it would only make sense to hang them up where he can enjoy them. I mean, I would much rather have a sexy photo of me on the wall, then some stranger for him to gawk at, am i right?

5. The Home Office

This one may require a little more bravery or just the right photo. The home office may be the perfect location to display your boudoir photos discreetly. Hey, it may just be the right amount of motivation for your hubby to get his work done quicker! Whatever, the work is done in your home office, perhaps an empowering boudoir photo can create inspiration and creativity on the worst of days.

Many girls think they have to run out and get new lingerie for their boudoir sessions. But in truth I can guarantee you already have at least 5 of these sitting in that closet already.

Let's take a look shall we?

1. Lingerie.

Of course lingerie would be on my list. I am a boudoir photographer after all. But think about it, you already have your favorite set of bra and undies in your drawers. And I’m pretty sure your man has a favorite one too. You may have different styles like all white or all black, red, lace, soft cotton, pastel colors and more. You can go for a more fresh and airy look with pastels or a more dark romantic look with deep reds, wine and black colors.

2. His White Button-Down/Dress Shirt

Believe it or not, men are simple creatures when it comes to women. However, nothing really gets their heart racing then their lady in one of their shirts. This is a classic that can pull off so many poses as well. From leaving a few buttons open to tying it in a knot over your bust. And if you really want to spice things up, maybe even do a shower type look in the white shirt making it cling to you are show a little more.

3. A Slip Dress

Grab your sexy nightgown. It's super silky and coverts into a slip dress. It's tight and hugs your every curve, accentuating you best ass-sets ;) and what he secretly loves.

4. Robe/Oversized Sweater

Nothing like feeling sexy and comfy all at once. Your robe is the perfect addition to seduce your man with a peek of skin here or there. Or really wow him with that super comfy sweater you love to snuggle in on the cold nights.

Mother's day is just around the corner, and soon people will be hitting the stores in search for something good for the amazing woman who seems to endlessly put others before herself (YOU).

So this year, why not spoil yourself on Mother's Day. I mean isn't that what Mother's Day is about? Soiling mom and letting her recharge her inner batteries for another year of washing clothes, dishes, cleaning the house, working, cooking dinner, keeping the kiddos alive.... the list goes on. I think it's safe to say all you mom's deserve a pampering dedicated around your awesome self. Lets face it, how many times a year do you put yourself first and get to be placed in the spotlight? If your anything like me, the answer to that is a big fat NEVER. Sure, I get my hair done once every two months. But I'm lucky to get a "it looks nice," or "did you do something to your hair today". Lol, certainly not a confidence booster.

When thinking boudoir, one of the first questions I get asked from women is, "How naked do I have to get?"

The answer is simple. It's up to you. When do you feel your sexiest and most comfortable? Base your outfit choice on what you want the final outcome of the shoot to be. The boudoir session you book is for you and is entirely based on your comfort and confidence. Indeed, some people even prefer to do boudoir fully clothed. Your session can be as revealing or conservative as you would like.

You Choose What You Wear

If you're someone who feels a rush of confidence in your favorite lingerie or a bra and panty set, that's the perfect outfit for your boudoir session. If a flannel and panties are the energy you're bringing to the shoot, rock your rustic look for the camera. If you want to wear your birthday suit or your skin sweater and bare it all in front of your photographer confidently, the choice is entirely yours. Your comfort and confidence levels are my first priority, and the more confident you feel in yourself, the more your sex appeal will shine through on camera. Know that you can trust me to respect you during the shoot, and communicate exactly what I want from them. I will help direct you into poses, and even show you the pose before you try it so you have an idea of what I's asking. Poses can even be changed upon comfort levels as well.

Conclusion

Boudoir is meant to showcase a woman's confidence and power, and whatever you feel the most vibrant and sexy in will be perfect for your session. Nudity is not a requirement for sex appeal, nor is it a requirement of your boudoir session. Having an open discussion with my clients is essential to getting the best possible boudoir photos out of your session. Today I'm featuring Stephanie, a stunning woman I photographed March 5th at the Chrissy Smith Photography Studio. This boudoir session was particularly special, as Stephanie, just like many other mom's out there has never done a boudoir before. And it had been a while since she had put herself first, so this session was all about making sure Stephanie was treated like the queen of the house she is.

As you can see, Stephanie is incredibly beautiful, but looks aren't the only thing she's got going on. This mom of two, has been rocking the home schooling for her two adorable children and hubs during these stressful Covid times.

Even though she was a little nervous before our shoot (who wouldn't be?), Stephanie was able to relax pretty quickly and we got some gorgeous shots.

She brought three different outfits for the session and each looked amazing on her. Her favorite being the green jumper type lingerie we used during the egg-chair set! Oh and did we mention, these awesome sets were purchased off Shein!

5 Tips of How to Relax during your Boudie Session

Below are a few tips that I have compiled to help you relax on the day of your shoot. Some of these I even do in studio to help.

Deep Breathing – Practice deep breathing. This is a proven relaxation method. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your nose. Repeat until you feel better.

Take a Break – If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we can take a break from shooting and talk and relax before resuming the session.

Drink – Not to get drunk, but a glass of wine before your shoot might help take that edge off. While I don't offer wine or alcohol in studio I do offer bottled water.

Take a peek into the New Boudoir Studio!

As you all read in my last blog post, I turned my temp studio (see below "before pics") into my new Boudoir Studio. **insert happy dance here**

This was a interesting undertaking but in the end I am super stoaked about the results, not to mention. I have already had a number of AWESOME Boudie sessions in the new Studio!

As you can see below, the process of removing walls and rebuilding was a messy situation.

After the walls were removed separating the office from storage room and office from the studio, it was time to make the new wall that would be closing in the new Studio Bathroom.

Finishing the drywall, mudding, sanding, a bit of paint and trim.... and we had a whole new studio!

With several different sets including the bedroom corner and my egg chair set, I am in LOVE with how the studio turned out. And how the finished session images are coming out as well!

So without further ado... I present a sneak peek into the NEW Chrissy Smith Photography Boudoir Studio!

With a little down time from finishing the studio and getting some of my first shoots done in studio, I am officially holding my Virtual Grand Opening this Friday from 4-6pm!

To all my faithful followers,

I want to apologize for my absence over the past few months. I will fully admit, Covid took us for a ride when everything shut down, and it has been like climbing Mt. Everest to get back to where I was. It has also made me sit back and reassess my business, where I want to be, what I want to do, etc (No worries, I will never give up on my photography).

When we moved last April, my original plan was to finish half the garage on our property and turn that into my studio. Then covid shutdowns struck, and like many small businesses we were forced to use what we had saved for business upgrades to pay bills and get buy. Leaving us back at square one on the Studio. I continued to shoot outdoors at the numerous beautiful locations around our studio and even on our studio property, but that still didn't seem to make me extremely happy with where I was in my career. Then, we had our second shut down. With the holiday's coming up and so many people suffering with loosing their jobs and not having extra money for photos. It was hard, and probably one of my worst holiday seasons since opening my business. This really made me sit back and take in my situation.

It had already been on my mind for a while as to what I really wanted to shoot. I wanted to pick a niche and stick with it, but in all honesty, I was scared. What if the niche I choose is wrong and I fall on my face and the business fails? What would my family think? I didn't want to fail my business or my family... or myself for that matter.

As I spoke to my hubs more then once, he finally talked me into taking the leap. "Telling me, you'll never know if you don't try." So, for two weeks in late Jan. Eric and I took action into our own hands and turned the temp studio, office, and storage room into my new Boudoir Studio.

That's right, Boudoir Studio. I will continue to do other types of photography on the side for now, but my attention for the most part will now be focused on growing my boudoir studio and brand. Why Boudoir? Well, you see... when you shoot many different types of photography you start to burn out. And the love you feel for photography turns more and more into "just get it done" attitude. This is not where I wanted to be. I love photography, I love being creative, and I love giving all of my ability into my work to create amazing work for my clients. So when I saw that waver, I knew it was time to pick a niche. Something that made me happy, something that made me excited to shoot, and gave me something to look forward to.

Boudoir does that for me. It allows me to be creative all while making people feel amazing with my talent. Empowering women to see the real woman they really are and just how beautiful she is. That is just as uplifting for me as it is my client, and I love it.

Once again, I cannot begin to tell you how much I have been chomping at the bit to get back to shooting. The Steckel Family is another one of my clients who have been effected by the Covid-19 shut down. Even thought little Everett made it in for his Newborn Session back before we were closed down, his 3 month portraits (part of our milestone packages) were delayed. Then when we were finally able to start booking outdoor sessions, his daddy was called into duty for the National Guard in Baltimore, MD for the riots that started. Naturally at a time like this we work as hard as we can to make sure our clients get their sessions in. So when Erica asked if she could do a Family Session, I made sure to fit her in.

I am so happy that this beautiful family finally had their chance to shine for their Family Portraits and I cannot wait to see Everett again in a few months!

Some Tips To Eliminate Those Fake Smiles From Children

Kids are completely unpredictable. They can be so adorable and easy going and laughing uncontrollably one minute, and the next minute, turn that charm off completely. They will typically smile for you all day long until you put them in front of a camera, then they freeze up like a deer in headlights. We want to avoid the gritted teeth and bug-eyed forced smiles during our session.

Here are some things you can do:

Make a list of things that your child thinks are funny and send it to us prior to the session. This way, we can be prepared and add these things into our bag of tricks.
Also give us a list of icebreakers for your child. Tell us the kinds of shows they watch, music they listen to, friends’ names, favorite story, etc. This will give us something to talk to them about, and will help them forget they’re in front of the camera.
Practice phrases at home to see which ones evoke the best smiles from your child. (Please, oh please, avoid “Say cheese!” unless that really works for you child.)
Try out a couple of jokes with them. During the session, we can ask them to tell us a joke and this will typically loosen them up as they tell it to us
If there is a song that your child loves, load it up to your phone and bring it along with you, or be prepared to sing it for them during the session.
Prepare a bribe (such as a toy, a trip to the zoo, etc.) and show it to them, or remind them of it, during the session.

Making it through the Covid-19

Toilet paper is flying off the shelves, businesses are being forced to close, and schools have shut their doors. And we all have to admit, things have become quite scary for the average American family. Scared not only for our health but for the uncertainty of our economy and what that means for not only small businesses but for those who also work for larger companies as well.

Even as I fear for my own families health and the sustainability of my own business. I continue to do the best I can. I mean that's all we can do right? So instead of worrying what the future will hold, I am making the most of what I have right now.

Of course, I can't help but laugh as I write this...I mean I am in the middle of what they say is one of the top most stressful things you will do in your life... buying a house and moving. (And they weren't kidding, I think my hair is fully gray now). Between the packing and the sitting and waiting on inspections, appraisals, loans, more appraisals and inspections, lol, I'm ready to be done with it all. I guess it wouldn't be as bad if we were just buying, but we also have to sell our current house as well. So it comes out to double the stress to make sure everything goes smoothly for our buyers of this house as well as the purchasing of our own new home. But no matter how stressful it is, it's worth it. The things I can look forward to with the business and with my family certain out weigh the stresses of home selling and buying.

As for right now, I am enjoying having my kids around. Well, most the time. Lol. Even with the temper tantrums and getting into EVERYTHING, I know these moments will only be temporary and in the blink of an eye they will be trying to get away from mom and dad and rolling their eyes as we ask where they are going. You see, this virus can be made into a positive experience. Make memories with it. Have family game nights. That's what we have done. For the past two nights we have played charades and uno, and let me tell you, charades with a 2 and 7 year old... I don't think I have laughed so hard in my life. Bored during the day? Go on a hike and do a nature scavenger hunt? The kiddos will have fun being outside and some fresh air will help everyone.

As for my business, you may wonder what can be done when stuck at home. Well, for me sadly, I can't do much shooting as my studio is now packed up and ready for our move in a few weeks. But there is still plenty of things I can do. For instance, catching up on my blog, and writing new blog posts, updating my website, and working on honing in my editing and education. You see just like with the family aspect, use this time to do things you normally don't have time for. For me, I still have to work it around my children. But while they are napping, coloring, or playing together, it gives me a little time to do these things.

So we will make it, the virus will eventually pass, and things will go back to normal. Sure things may be a little harder for everyone when this virus is over, but if you work hard and keep your spirits up, you will be fine.

{Boudoir} How to choose the best Lingerie to suite your body

"I have no idea what to wear, what do you recommend?"

So, in order to help answer this question I have compiled a little information to help you out.

First things first, find your body type. There are many different types of shapes however, all those shapes fit into one of these categories.

You have the Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle, and Inverted-triangle.

To figure out which of these you are, you will need to do two things.

Measure your bust, waist (at its smallest part), and hips (at their largest part)
Look at a full size mirror and assess your silhouette (the outline of your body) from front and sideways view

If your bust measurements are the same or very close to your hips measurement and you have a well defined waist – you are an Hourglass type.

If your bust line, waist and hips are equal or very similar (there is no a defined waist) you are Rectangle body type. Also when you look at yourself from the side your bottom may look flat.

If your bust line is broader than your hips in measurements and when looking at your silhouette sideways you are most likely an Inverted-Triangle.

Now the fun part, we have covered body types and you have a pretty good idea as to which you are, so we can figure out what lingerie looks best on each body type.

A few new locations to shoot at!

With our move from New Oxford to Fairfield coming up quickly, I have been doing some research and getting a list together of places I have shot in the past that are close to Fairfield, or are even places I would look forward to shooting in the future. Sure, we have many plans and land behind the new studio, but it is always nice to have other locations as well. Below are just a few of the locations on my list.

Caledonia State Park in Chambersburg, PA

Caledonia offers a number of really nice areas for photographs. Between the pine run reservoir (top left) which my family has kayaked, and the Caledonia falls (top right) which has been the background to many engagement photos, there are many different looks and backgrounds in this beautiful state park. I have done several sessions here over the years. From family and extended family sessions to engagements. Caledonia is just as good of a location as Codorus State park. Only Codorus doesn't offer a waterfall!

Tayamentasachta Environmental Center in Greencastle, PA.

Tayamentasachta Environmental Center is beautiful. From there beautifully placed trees, to their gazebo and barns. Tayamentasachta is unique and fun for family or children sessions. Not to mention there is much for the children to do during the summer with checking out the pond they have with ducks galore!

Appalachian Trail.

It's hard to believe, but the Appalachian trail is always easily forgot about by a lot of clients, and has to be one of natures most beautiful stretches of land. From streams with small falls and rapids to stunning trails laced with mountain laurel, the Appalachian trail is an gorgeous location for photos. Our family has hiked many areas of the Appalachian trail, however I have found my own special spot that I am really looking forward to doing sessions at.

Gettysburg

Gettysburg has always been a favorite of mine. With the amazing history and many looks throughout the year, this is a location that can offer it all. Devil's Den, the Weat Field, Sach's Covered Bridge... they are all stunning and offer an amazing backdrop for any type of photography.

Lesher's sunflower field is another hidden oasis many people who are not local to the area know nothing about. With fields upon fields of stunning sunflowers, this is a prime summer spot if you can catch these radiant beauties in peak bloom.
